Queen 'disapproved' of Kate Middleton and Prince William's link to Princess Diana at their wedding
Kate and William's wedding took place at Westminster Abbey 14 years agoThe late Queen reportedly made a ‘disapproving’ comment at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton – which was later revealed by a lip reader.
The Prince of Wales and Kate Middleton tied the knot on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey on the feast day of St Catherine of Siena. At the time, William was second in the line of succession to the British throne.
During the special day, it appeared Queen Elizabeth II turned to her husband at the time and uttered a remark which was picked up by a lip reader.

Queen’s remark at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding
According to CBS News at the time, Tina Lannin claimed the Queen said outside the abbey: “I wanted them to take the smaller carriage.”
In addition, the then Prince Charles’ wife Camilla reportedly said: “It all went very well.”
The Queen is said to have replied: “Very well.”
However, the carriage which the couple rode in was the royal carriage that William’s parents used at their own wedding in 1981.
William and Kate initially met at university and dated for eight years before the prince proposed in 2010.
They then married the following year and have gone on to have three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kate and William’s wedding carriage
The horse drawn carriage Kate and William used at their wedding was used by his parents Charles and Princess Diana.
The 1902 State Landau coach took the couple from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, where they continued their wedding celebrations. It’s also the famous balcony spot where the couple shared not one – but two – kisses to the cheering crowds below.
There were five carriages used in the procession on the day, included one taking Prince Harry and Kate’s sister, as well as another for the bridesmaids.
The fourth carriage carried the late Queen Elizabeth and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip. The fifth carriage transported future King Charles and Queen Camilla.
However, there was a plan in place if the weather took a turn for the worst. A glass coach would be used instead if it began raining.
After Kate Middleton and Prince William left Buckingham Palace after their wedding ceremony, they drove a convertible Aston Martin Volante.

The ‘wedding of the century’
Ahead of the big day, a lot of the special elements of Kate and William’s nuptials were heavily guarded by the royal family and their staff. This was so that in the weeks leading up to the event, the couple could protect their privacy for their special day.
Prime Minister David Cameron announced the day would be a national holiday so that the country to celebrate with the royals.
Prince William asked Harry to be his best man, although under royal protocol, he usually has a ‘supporter’ instead.

Kate’s sister Pippa, was her maid of honour and she had four bridesmaids: Lady Louise Windsor, the Honourable Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Grace van Cutsem, and Eliza Lopes.
On the day of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding the late queen gave them their titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He was also named the Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. If Catherine didn’t receive the duchess title, she would have been known as Princess William.
When King Charles ascended to the throne in 2022, William and Kate became the Prince and Princess of Wales.
