Meghan Markle hasn’t spoken to her dad, who recently suffered a stroke, since she married Prince Harry – even when his health took a turn for the worst.

Her father, Thomas Markle, has made a desperate plea on live television to try to reach the Duchess after several failed attempts. Meghan Markle‘s dad suffered a stroke in May last year, which saw him lose the ability to speak. After intense speech therapy, he’s now able to voice how he feels as his health battle continues. However, he’s choosing to speak out on how he hasn’t had any communication with his royal daughter since she tied the knot with Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle didn’t ‘reach out’ to her dad after his stroke

The 79-year-old appeared on Good Morning Britain, a morning talk show, about his grandkids. In a desperate plea, he urged the royals to allow him access to grandchildren. After Meghan Markle’s dad suffered a stroke, he’s more determined to get a chance to meet them.

He fears he’ll never see their faces before he dies.

Thomas, who is set to turn 80 next year, said: “This is a vow. I want to see my grandkids. I think King Charles will also like to see his grandkids as well.”

But Thomas Markle also admitted Meghan hasn’t spoken to him at all since she got married.

The TV host, Susanna Reid, said: “Everyone can hear the pain you’re feeling, not seeing your grandchildren. Family rifts are tragic, and people not speaking to each other is desperately sad.”

He was then asked: “You had a stroke, you were very ill with that stroke, you lost the power of speech. Did Meghan make any attempt, even via a third party, to see how you were doing?”

Thomas replied: “To my knowledge, no attempt at all. No one tried. I haven’t seen Meghan and Harry in five years. The last time I spoke with them, I was in a hospital bed before the wedding.”

Inside Meghan and Thomas’ struggling relationship

The father-daughter bond eventually broke down before Meghan said ‘I do’ at her wedding. Ahead of the big day, the Daily Mail shared parts of a private letter she sent him. The royal later successfully sued the publication for releasing a part of the note.

He wasn’t able to go the big day itself, as he suffered a heart attack and couldn’t fly out. Instead, King Charles stepped forward to offer his services of walking the Duchess down the aisle to give her away. It’s not been reported that Meghan Markle was ‘no blushing bride’ when she responded to the sweet gesture.

Ever since, there’s been a rift between the pair.

The award-winning lighting director for TV, who worked for big soaps like General Hospital, met Meghan’s mom at the studio. But days of Meghan being a ‘daddy’s girl’ have changed, as the bond went sour following the nuptials.

Thomas claimed in 2018 he tried to reach out via the palace but heard nothing back. He then slammed his daughter, claiming he “made her the Duchess she is today” during a long interview with the Mail.

But Harry feels regretful about the whole ordeal. Telling the Netflix cameras last year, she had a “father before this. And now she doesn’t have a father”. It’s now clear Meghan Markle has spoken to her dad still, even after his stroke and brush with death.
