Prince William was in attendance at the 2024 BAFTA Awards on Sunday (February 18). However, Kate Middleton was noticeably – and understandably – absent from the event due to her surgery, so Prince William attended alone. Kate will not partake in any royal duties until at least Easter and is still recovering at home. Kate and William, both 42, usually attend the BAFTAs together and have done so for more than a decade but, despite her absence, he seemed in high spirits at the awards show.
Prince William says Kate Middleton’s ‘sorry’ she couldn’t attend after her surgery
Prince William apologized over Kate Middleton’s absence after her surgery last month. Details of the operation were not shared but Kensington Palace announced it had been “successful.”
William, who is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), regularly attends events to do with the big and small screen.
The BAFTAs is one of his first commitments since he stepped back into work after taking some time away while Kate had surgery.
At the event, he told Elaine Bedel, chief executive of the Southbank Centre: “I’m sorry Catherine’s not here. She does love the BAFTAs.”
He admitted he hadn’t seen as many films this year due to Kate’s procedure. The dad-of-three also revealed they usually watch movies together.
“I’ve done the fewest I’ve ever done before, with my wife it’s been a bit…hopefully we’ll catch up,” He was also overheard telling people. “I’ll make my list tonight.”
He confessed he had watched Oppenheimer but not Barbie. Hopefully Margot Robbie wasn’t in earshot.
Kate Middleton managed to leave the hospital ‘unnoticed’
Kate Middleton was in the hospital for two weeks following her ‘abdominal surgery’ and Prince William visited at least once. However, after being treated at the London Clinic she managed to somehow leave the clinic “unnoticed“. One royal photographer shared his theories about how exactly she did it.
Speaking on HELLO!’s A Right Royal podcast, James Whatling said the future queen could have well taken a leaf out of Meghan Markle and her husband’s book. She and Prince Harry often use unmarked cars to get from place to place to allow for them not to be spotted.
“All they really had to do was put the Princess of Wales in a car that was not really recognizable as a royal car,” he said.
“Harry and Meghan used to use unmarked people carriers – something like that would have been comfortable.”
The other theory involves Kate’s decade-long assistant Natasha Archer. He believes she could’ve managed to get Kate in the back of her car without anyone noticing, despite there being over 20 photographers outside.
