Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met in July 2016, after being set up on a date with mutual friends, and instantly, sparks began to fly. The former Suits actress was in London for Wimbledon, where her good friend Serena Williams was competing, and at the same time, heading to Soho house to date her future husband.
Waitress from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first date was ‘witnessing mythology’
The couple didn’t waste any time heading for a second date while the Duchess was in London, and they were served by the same waiter both times Mischa, Harry writes in his book Spare.
“She [the waitress] seemed very happy to see us, to discover there was a Date Two,” the Prince writes. “She could tell what was happening, she got that she was an eyewitness, that she’d forever be a part of our personal mythology.”
Harry writes that on their second date, after bringing them a round of drinks, Mischa was gone for a long time. Awkwardly, when she returned the new couple were in the middle of a deep kiss. Despite it only being their second date, it wasn’t their first.
“Meghan, holding my shirt collar, was pulling me towards her, holding me close. When she saw Mischa she released me immediately and we all laughed,” Harry recalled in his memoir.
He then goes on to write about the ending of the date night, as Meghan was flying back to Canada the next day. However, they weren’t going to let distance get in their way.
“We’ll meet, a long visit this Summer,” the Prince said. He stuck to his word and they spent a romantic holiday in Botswana before committing to a long-distance relationship.
The world found out after four months of quiet dating
After dating for secret in four months, the news came out in October 2016 that Harry was dating an American actress.
At the time, a source told the Sunday Express “he’s happier than he’s been for many years. He’s in a very relaxed period of his life and Meghan has come along at the right time,” they continued.
“It’s too early to say if the relationship will lead to anything long-term but who knows?” the source questioned at the time. Of course, it did lead to something long-term, and they’re now in their sixth year of marriage with two adorable children.
