Buckingham Palace’s statement on the king’s cancer
The palace announced King Charles’ cancer in February. A statement at the time read: “During the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
They added: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation.”
Despite his health woes, the king embarked on many duties across the year. In October, he and wife Queen Camilla travelled to Australia and Samoa for a royal tour. Reports claimed that he paused his treatment during this time.

King Charles to ‘reflect’ during ‘poignant’ Christmas amid cancer
The king will host Christmas this year at Sandringham, with reportedly more than 40 members of the royal family in attendance. This includes Prince William, Kate and their three children.
Former royal butler Paul Burrell has said this Christmas will give Charles “time to reflect”. His daughter-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales, has also faced cancer treatment this year, so she too will be “thinking a lot”.
Kate is well on the way to recovery so will have a particularly nice Christmas this year.
Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Paul Burrell said: “They’ll sit around the table and be very mindful of the people who are missing. Kate is well on the way to recovery so will have a particularly nice Christmas this year.

“Kate and William’s Christmas is very different to the one Charles and Camilla will spend with the old folk. It’s always looked like that. The old folk go to Sandringham, the nursery days have gone.
“In my day, the house was filled with the laughter of children and filled with nurseries but now it resembles something very different, more like a retirement home. The fun and laughter will be in William and Kate’s household at Amner Hall, they’ll have the fun.”
