Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, will reportedly spend their Christmas at Sandringham with members of the royal family.

But how exactly does their Christmas Day look? While of course it’s a day for family, royal duty is still a big part of the celebrations.

The royals usually embark on a public walkabout on December 25 to greet locals who have gathered. But behind royal walls, it seems the family enjoy a pretty standard Christmas Day like many of us… well, kind of.

How the royal family spends Christmas

This year, King Charles will reportedly host Christmas on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, with more than 40 members of the family in attendance.

This includes the Prince and Princess of Wales with their three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

William and Kate will go back to Anmer Hall and go back to their family unit.

According to reports, the royals traditionally exchange funny or homemade gifts on Christmas Eve.

Then on Christmas Day, the royals attend a church service in Sandringham before stepping out to greet locals gathered.

It’s said this year that the king will host more than 40 members of the family at Sandringham. Just like many on Christmas Day, the family will enjoy a turkey dinner.

How Prince William and Kate spend their Christmas Day

The Prince of Wales recently gave a glimpse into their Christmas festivities this year. Speaking during a recent royal visit in Bulford, Wiltshire, William said: “We’ll be in Norfolk, at Sandringham.

“We’ll be 45 for Christmas. It won’t be quiet, it will be noisy. Am I ready for Christmas? No, no way am I ready.”

Former royal butler Paul Burrell has also opened up about how the royals usually spend the occasion.

Predicting William and Kate’s plans this year, Paul said on behalf of Spin Genie: “The king will be alone with a few friends on Christmas day afternoon because William and Kate will go back to Anmer Hall and go back to their family unit and have Christmas underneath their roof, not under the roof of Sandringham.

“They’re becoming a thoroughly modern royal family and doing things more like we do them. The royals, they open their Christmas presents on Christmas Eve.

William and Kate to enjoy family time at Anmer Hall

“The lights go out, the drawing room doors open, the Christmas lights will be on in the white drawing room.

“Throughout the day, everyone will come and assemble presents. Each person has their own individual table. Now that’s when they open their presents and their Christmas was over on Christmas Eve.”

He added: “However, it’s not now. William and Kate go to Anmer now and do our Christmas. They will open presents on Christmas morning with their children.

“It’s a duty Christmas with the king and a private Christmas with their family.”
