Prince Edward and wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, were reportedly “unhappy” over Christmas plans involving Prince Andrew.

The couple were apparently told to share a cottage with the Duke of York for Christmas, before Andrew pulled out of Sandringham celebrations.

King Charles, 76, is hosting Christmas on the Sandringham Estate this year, with reportedly more than 40 members of the family joining. However, Andrew won’t be joining the royals after making headlines over his association with an alleged ‘Chinese spy’.

The Sun claims that the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were “less than pleased” over the plans.

A source claimed that Edward and Sophie were disappointed last year when they were “effectively given the servants’ quarters” during the festivities.

This year, they felt the choice of Wood Farm was a “step up”. However, they reportedly weren’t happy over sharing the accommodation with Prince Andrew.

The publication claims that Prince Edward and Sophie were “relieved” when it was revealed Andrew would spend Christmas in Windsor instead. It’s said his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson “encouraged and cajoled” him to stay away.

ED! contacted reps for Buckingham Palace for comment.

Prince Andrew to ‘spend Christmas’ at Royal Lodge

It’s said that the Duke of York will spend Christmas at his home Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Andrew has been making headlines in recent weeks due to his association with an alleged ‘Chinese spy’. Yang Tengbo was banned from entering the UK in 2023, but has denied being a spy.

Prince Andrew’s office recently said he “ceased all contact” with the Chinese businessman following “advice” from officials.

It’s believed that Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah – who also lives at Royal Lodge – will spend Christmas in Windsor too.

A source told Vanity Fair: “Actually the plan is for them to all be at Sandringham for a very special big family Christmas. William and Catherine and the children will be there. The king and queen want their nearest and dearest with them to celebrate.”

Traditionally, the royals step out for a church service on Christmas Day. They then do a public walkabout in Sandringham to greet members of the public who have gathered.
