Princess Kate’s parents played ‘vital’ role in helping Wales family through ‘brutal’ year
The Princess of Wales received treatment for cancer in 2024
2024 was challenging for Princess Kate, as she navigated a cancer diagnosis and treatment, all while maintaining her family’s stability and supporting her royal duties.
Now, as she begins to ease back into public life following the conclusion of her chemotherapy, one thing remains clear: the unwavering support of her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, has been the foundation for the family during this turbulent time.

Princess Kate had a tough 2024 with cancer treatment
Kate, 42, took a step back from public life in 2024 to prioritise her health.
However, she did make select appearances at high-profile events including Trooping the Colour and the Wimbledon men’s final.
In September, she shared the hopeful news that her chemotherapy was complete and that her focus had shifted to “staying cancer-free”.
In an exclusive interview with OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond emphasised the unity and resilience of the Wales family during this difficult year.
I’m sure William and Catherine leant on them very hard during their darkest days.
“A year like they have just endured must, as William said, have been brutal for the entire family. But it seems clear that they have pulled together as a unit, and they look very much in harmony and delighted to be out and about together again,” she said.
Jennie also praised Prince William and Kate’s approach to parenting during such a challenging time.
“William and Catherine should be rightly proud of their brood and proud of themselves for guiding them through this incredibly difficult year,” she said, referring to their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

Princess Kate’s parents played ‘vital’ role during her cancer treatment
Throughout the past year, Carole and Michael Middleton have played an instrumental role in supporting their daughter and her family.
Jennie highlighted their practical and emotional contributions.
“I think a shout-out should also go to Carole and Michael Middleton, who have undoubtedly been a vital part of the family this year, both practically and emotionally,” she added. “I’m sure William and Catherine leant on them very hard during their darkest days.”
The Middletons’ hands-on approach extends beyond emotional support.
They have been active and playful grandparents, as revealed during the Together at Christmas carol service, where Prince Louis’ handmade card celebrated his “Granny and Grandpa”.

William and Kate have been ‘generous’ in letting kids be seen in public
Despite the struggles of the past year, the Wales family has made select public appearances, showcasing their strength as a unit.
Jennie noted their balance of privacy and public presence.
She said William and Kate have been “quite generous this year in allowing their children to be seen in public”.
These appearances have also served as a gentle way to acclimate Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to their future roles in the public eye.
Jennie believes this measured approach is key to their success. She said she doesn’t think there’s “any reason to suspect we’ll see more of them in 2025” but there will be the “usual occasional public appearance”.
