Meghan Markle's father Thomas takes swipe at Prince Harry as he supports her ex-husband: 'I really liked him'
The Duchess of Sussex has a strained relationship with her fatherThomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, has taken a swipe at her husband Prince Harry in a new interview.
Meghan, 43, has had a fractured relationship with her father ever since she got engaged to Harry. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex married in 2018, but Thomas wasn’t in attendance.
Now, in a new interview, Thomas, 80, has appeared to make a dig at Harry as he spoke about Meghan’s first marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson.

Former actress Meghan and Trevor, 48, were married from 2011 to 2014. Their divorce came two years before Meghan met Prince Harry, 40, in 2016.
Speaking about Trevor, Thomas – who hasn’t met Prince Harry – told the MailOnline: “I really liked Trevor. I don’t think he ever understood why she dumped him either.”
In the interview, Thomas also made his feelings clear on his daughter.
Thomas said: “I don’t like some of the things my daughter has done but I will always love her. My door is always open to her. I love her and that will never change. I love all my children.
“Every day I see something about Meghan. I wish her no ill-will. My dream is that one day I could bring my whole family together, like a ‘normal’ family.”

In the lead-up to her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan was reportedly left upset over her family’s behaviour in the spotlight. Some members of her family sat down for interviews, as well as claimed they hadn’t been invited to the nuptials.
In addition to this, Thomas had staged paparazzi photos before the wedding – something he has repeatedly apologised for.

He missed Meghan’s big day after becoming ill and having to undergo heart surgery. Thomas watched the wedding from a rented Airbnb after leaving hospital.
Speaking about the staged pictures in 2021, Thomas told Good Morning Britain: “I wish I hadn’t done the whole thing.
“I went for this deal where [a photographer] was going to make me look better. Maybe I got sucked into it, but I believed him, and I thought it was going to work. It didn’t work. Of course.”
Meghan also addressed the scandal during her and Harry’s tell-all 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She said: “We called my dad and I asked him [about staging the photos] he said, ‘No, absolutely not.’
“I said, ‘I just need you to tell me and if you tell me the truth, we can help,’ and he wasn’t able to do that.”
