King Charles is set to open Balmoral Castle – one of the royal residences – for the second year running.

Balmoral Castle in Scotland is the royal family’s summer residence, with members of the monarchy travelling up there over the summer months.

But it also has a deep significance to the royals as the late Queen Elizabeth II died there in 2022.

King Charles to open Balmoral Castle grounds this spring and summer

Last year, King Charles, 76, opened the doors of the castle for the first time for a number of small private tours to explore.

Following its success, the same will happen in 2025.

The announcement was made on the Balmoral Castle’s official Instagram account. It said that tickets for this summer are now live on its website.

The caption continued: “From Tuesday, 1st April to Sunday, 10th August, you can explore our grounds, gardens, exhibitions, and more, open daily from 10:00 to 17:00.

“Visitors will have the chance to discover the exciting changes HM The King has made to the gardens, including the Thistle maze, the Celtic maze garden, and new plantings of trees, shrubs, and topiary.”

It went on to say that Balmoral offers a “timeless experience like no other” whether people want to explore the gardens, the grandeur of the castle or just enjoy the “natural beauty of the estate”.

Ticket options include general admission, afternoon tea and expedition tours.

The cost of the interior tour tickets start at £110 per person and those who would like afternoon tea along with it, it’s £170.

Meanwhile, general admission prices start from £18.50 for an adult and £9.50 for a child over five.

Balmoral was Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite royal residence

The castle was said to have been the late queen’s favourite royal getaway. Her granddaughter Princess Eugenie once said on the Our Queen At Ninety documentary: “I think Granny is the most happy there, I think she really, really loves the Highlands… Walks, picnics, dogs – a lot of dogs, there’s always dogs!

“And people coming in and out all the time. Family-wise we’re all there, so it’s a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa to be – for us to come and see them up there, where you just have room to breathe and run.”

The late queen died at the castle on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Since then, King Charles has continued her tradition by spending summer at the castle.

I think Granny is the most happy there, I think she really, really loves the Highlands.

Members of the royal family usually join during the summer months, including the Prince and Princess of Wales with their three children.
