Harry and Meghan moved overseas in 2020
The royal family may be known for their history and traditions but the magnificent properties family members call home are also remarkable – so where do they all live?
Here’s a glimpse into where members of the royal family live, including King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Clarence House, William and Kate’s family-friendly Adelaide Cottage, and Harry and Meghan’s Montecito mansion.

Where members of the royal family live
King Charles and Queen Camilla: Clarence House
King Charles and Queen Camilla continue to reside in Clarence House, even after Charles’ ascension to the throne in 2022.
Situated beside St James’s Palace in London, Clarence House has been their primary residence since 2003.
Designed by John Nash in the 1820s, it was originally built for Prince William Henry, Duke of Clarence, and later housed several generations of royals, including the Queen Mother, who lived there until her passing in 2002.

This five-bedroom home was described by the royal family’s website as “the last great London house to be maintained for its original purpose”.
King Charles was particularly close to his grandmother and has retained much of her décor.
Although Buckingham Palace is still the official royal residence, extensive renovations mean they are unlikely to move there until 2027.

William and Kate: Adelaide Cottage
The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – made the move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022.
This property is conveniently located near the children’s new school in Berkshire.

“The move is mostly down to schooling,” a family friend explained.
Despite being smaller than their previous home, Kensington Palace, Adelaide Cottage is steeped in history.
Built in 1831 as a retreat for Queen Adelaide, it is a perfect blend of tradition and modern family living.

Prince Edward and Sophie: Bagshot Park
Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, live in Bagshot Park, a vast estate located in Surrey.
This Grade II-listed mansion is surrounded by 51 acres of gardens. It offers both privacy and proximity to Windsor Castle, where they often spent time with the late Queen Elizabeth.

The home has been in royal hands for generations. It was initially built for Queen Victoria’s third son, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught.
With 120 rooms and extensive grounds, Bagshot Park is luxurious but private.
Edward and Sophie reportedly extended their lease on the property by 150 years in 1998 to ensure it remains their family home for generations.

Princess Anne: Gatcombe Park
Princess Anne resides at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, a private estate purchased by Queen Elizabeth in 1976.
Nestled in the countryside, this property provides a serene escape from royal duties.
It is also home to Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, and her family, who live on a separate property on the estate.
Built in the late 18th century, Gatcombe Park features extensive parkland, a conservatory, and two small lakes.
Speaking about her home, Anne has said: “It’s a working farm and a family retreat. It’s where we can breathe.”

Harry and Meghan: Montecito mansion
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made headlines when they purchased a $14.65 million mansion in Montecito, California, after stepping back from royal duties.
This sprawling estate boasts nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a pool, and even a chicken coop.
“From the moment we saw it, we knew this was our home,” Meghan gushed in an interview with The Cut.
A pair of intertwined palm trees on the property holds special meaning for the couple, symbolising their unity.
“Archie calls them ‘Momma and Papa,” she revealed.
While their Montecito mansion is now their primary residence, Harry and Meghan lived in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor until March 2023.
However, they were asked to vacate by King Charles.
