'Enormous concern' for Princess Kate 'overdoing it' as she turns 43 after 'incredibly tough' cancer battle
A royal commentator has weighed in on Kate's return to dutiesThe world was shocked last year to learn about Kate, Princess of Wales’ cancer news. But since announcing she has finished treatment, there’s been speculation about when she’ll return to her royal duties.
As Kate celebrates her 43rd birthday today (January 9), it also marks the beginning of her new era – especially as she progresses back into her public duties slowly.
In September 2024, Kate confirmed she had finished her treatment and was focusing on staying cancer-free.
Since then she has appeared at a few royal events. But, as she begins returning to duties, a royal expert believes there could be “enormous concern” for Kate.

‘Concern’ over Princess of Wales ‘overdoing it’ following cancer
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams spoke exclusively to Royal Insider, sharing his thoughts on Kate going back to work.
He admitted: “I do think there will be enormous concern over the possibility of Kate overdoing it. So while we rejoice that she is ‘cancer-free’, we have been told she has a long way to go.”
As for what 2025 will look like for the family, that still remains to be seen. But one thing is for certain, she will have the continuous support of her family around her.
Richard continued: “Planning this next year will be challenging. We know how supportive William is and, behind the scenes, how helpful the Middleton family undoubtedly is.”
As soon as possible, William and Kate will tour. No one else has their pull.
In her video announcing she had completed her treatment, Kate spoke about the “tough year” she and her family had in 2024. Kate explained she was entering a “new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life”.
This new phase very much includes the royal duties that she was forced to miss for months due to her treatment. And Richard thinks he knows exactly where her work will take her.
He explained: “Her focus will undoubtedly be on her work on early childhood. And she will naturally be giving priority to her health and her family.”

Prince William and Kate tipped to tour in 2025
But he also thinks we could be seeing Kate and Prince William head on a royal tour soon enough, to show their strength to the world.
“The late Queen Elizabeth spoke of the importance of being ‘seen,'” Richard continued. “As soon as possible, William and Kate will tour. No one else has their pull.”
Although, this all depends on what the family have planned as they are obviously going to be taking extra precautions.
Richard confirmed: “We don’t have any clues about their schedule in the coming year. And it will clearly be much reduced and dependent on medical advice.”
If Kate feels well enough, and the doctors give her the approval, we would love to see more of the princess during 2025.
It comes as Kate celebrates her 43rd birthday on Thursday, with her family.
Members of the royal family have already penned heartfelt well-wishes to the princess.
William also wrote an emotional note to his “incredible wife”. He praised Kate’s “strength,” confessing he and their kids “are so proud” of her.
