It seems the love for photography runs in the family...

Kate, Princess of Wales is celebrating her 43rd birthday today (January 9), one year after her abdominal surgery and cancer diagnosis.

Despite 2024 being an extremely difficult year for the Princess of Wales, things are on the up. Kate announced in September that her treatment had ended and she was focusing on staying cancer-free.

And while Kate’s birthday has just started, members of the royal family have already shared heartfelt tributes for her. This includes Prince William, who shared a beautiful message for his “incredible wife”.

Princess Kate may have received ‘family tradition’ birthday gift

While the family have kept details of Kate’s birthday plans hush, it’s believed this one will be a ‘pivotal one’ after her tough year.

But something that is guaranteed to make the future queen smile, is the homemade present she most likely received from her children.

Kate and Prince William have three children; sons Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, six, and daughter Princess Charlotte, nine. And it appears the kids love to make a big deal of their mum on her birthdays.

A source told Closer Magazine in 2020 that the kids gave Kate a very thoughtful present. Something which they appear to actually do every year.

Usually they would each pick their favourite photographs of the family from that year and turn it into a collage for Kate to keep. But it changed to be more homemade in 2020.

The source told Closer: “It has become somewhat of a family tradition. But it now contains photos which George and Charlotte have actually taken themselves.”

If there is any year the family would make sure the adorable tradition is upheld, it would be this one.

Charlotte and George’s love for photography doesn’t come as much of a surprise as we know Kate herself has tried it out.

During her time away from the public eye in early 2024, before she shared her cancer news with the world, an image was uploaded onto Kate and William’s official social media accounts. However, it was clearly edited.

Kate later apologised and said this was her doing as she was experimenting with all the features available.

Then on Father’s Day last year, Kate shared a photo of William and the kids taken by her. So, a love of photography must run in the family.

Princess of Wales’ cancer journey

It’s no surprise that the family would try to do something lovely for Kate this year. Royal Insider exclusively reported that commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes George, Charlotte and Louis would want to do something special to “rejoice at her recovery”.

During her cancer-free announcement video, Kate called last year “incredibly tough” for her and her family. But she assured the public that she was looking forward to returning to her public duties when she feels up to it.

Kate took an extended period away from working life so that she could put her entire energy and focus into her recovery – and thankfully it seems to have worked.
