The 'worst' birthday gift Princess Kate will 'never let' Prince William forget about
Looking back, even Prince William doesn't know why he bought it for her!Today (January 9) marks the 43rd birthday of Kate, Princess of Wales. This one is most likely even more special after the ‘tough’ year she had last year.
On Kate’s birthday last year she was preparing for her abdominal surgery, so the family most likely didn’t get to celebrate. A bit later into the year, Kate announced her cancer diagnosis and underwent treatment.
So it’s no surprise that this year the family are expected to spend time together, celebrating Kate. If previous years are anything to go by, Kate could receive a homemade gift from the kids, which has apparently turned into a “family tradition”.
But it seems there was one year that Prince William, 42, bought his wife a present that was unexpected – and she hasn’t let him forget about it ever since!
Princess Kate once received ‘worst’ gift from Prince William
Back in 2020, Prince William himself confessed that he bought Kate a present in the early days of their relationship that actually “sealed the deal” for them.
He made the admission on an episode of the That Peter Crouch Podcast, where he discussed the early days of his and Kate’s romance.
The hosts were discussing the worst gifts they had ever given to their partners. Former footballer Peter was adamant that the raincoat he bought his wife, Abbey Clancy, was going to win.
Prince William was then asked: “Can you beat a worse present than that?”
The prince wasted no time in confirming that he actually does have a gift that is worse. And it’s quite unexpected.
He said: “I probably can. I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once. She has never let me forget that.”
Binoculars would be a good present if that’s what the other person was interested in. But that wasn’t even the case for the royal.
However, he too now sees the funny and bizarre side to it. But he did try to justify it as it was early on.
William joked: “That was early on in the courtship, that was. I tell you what though, I think that sealed the deal. She fell for me at that point.”
As for why he even decided it was a good idea, William tried to give his reasoning. He said: “I think I was convincing myself about it. I was like, ‘These are really amazing! Look how far you can see.'”
It’s no surprise that Kate hasn’t let him forget about it. The prince went on to even share what her initial reaction was.
William revealed: “She started looking at me going, ‘They’re binoculars. What’s going on?’ It didn’t go well.”
Looking back, even he was confused about his purchase. He confessed: “I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars.”
Prince William’s birthday message to Kate
However, we’re sure William has redeemed himself over the years. Today, he shared his own beautiful note to his “incredible wife”.
He wrote: “To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you have shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are sp proud of you. Happy birthday, Catherine. We love you. W.”
William isn’t the only member of the family to acknowledge Kate’s birthday as King Charles and Queen Camilla penned their own message.
