Prince Harry and Meghan Markle help out in aftermath of LA wildfires

This month has seen LA and parts of Southern California ravaged by wildfires.

In the aftermath of the fires, Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, were spotted helping hand out food parcels to survivors.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who accompanied the couple, gushed over their help.

“They really buoyed the spirits of the first responders,” he said. “We visited the command post at the Rose Bowl, and people were very happy to see them.”

Mayor Gordo then continued, saying: “They were not here for publicity, they came out here to work.

“They took the time to meet the people who were affected and spend time. They are just very caring people who are very concerned for their friends and neighbours.”

Kelly Osbourne hits out at celebrities amid wildfires

However, Kelly Osbourne, 40, has hinted she hasn’t been impressed with Harry and Meghan – and celebs in general’s reaction to the LA fires.

The star posted a now-deleted video ranting about celebs to her Instagram this week.

“Is it just me being my normal overthinking cynical self, or is it really disturbing to see all of these celebrities using other people’s pain and suffering as a photo op,” she said.

“To say, ‘Look I’m helping, I’m doing this, I’m doing that?’ I don’t believe you help so that you can get attention for helping. I believe you just help because you want to,” she then continued.

“No one asked you to come out and give hugs. Go home.”

The video, which was reuploaded to TikTok, saw people point at Harry and Meghan in particular.

“Well said Meghan and Harry brought a full film crew with them for their own benefit PR stunt,” one person commented.

“No I agree I saw Harry and Meghan the other day it was obviously for the cameras,” another said.

Hollywood star Justine Bateman also slammed the Sussexes. She said on X: “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now?

“They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster tourists.”

Meghan delays launch of Netflix show

In other news, Meghan announced that the release of her new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, has been delayed.

The lifestyle series was meant to drop earlier this week. However, in the wake of the LA fires, the Duchess of Sussex announced it would now be airing in March instead.

“I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California,” she said in a statement.

Nick Ede, a brand and culture expert, said that the delay “needed to happen” in light of the fires.

Who is Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex?

Former actress Meghan had a string of acting roles before she met Prince Harry, most famously playing the role of Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits.

Her acting career began at Northwestern University.

The duchess also wrote a lifestyle blog named The Tig and became heavily involved in charity work - which has continued since she met Harry.

Marrying Prince Harry

Meghan married into the royal family on May 19, 2018, when she and Prince Harry tied the knot at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Just a few months after their wedding, Meghan and Harry announced they were expecting their first child. They welcomed Prince Archie on May 6, 2019.

Two years later on June 4, 2021, the couple welcomed a daughter named Princess Lilibet. She was named after the late Queen Elizabeth II - whose nickname was Lilibet.

Months after welcoming son Archie, Prince Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down from their senior royal roles within the royal family. They then moved to the United States and have lived there since.

Meghan has made a return to the entertainment world, launching projects with Netflix alongside Harry. In January 2025, she announced a lifestyle show named With Love, Meghan, which will see her giving cooking and gardening tips to viewers alongside a host of celebrity guests. It will premiere on March 4, 2025.

“The move from Meghan and Netflix to change the date of her new TV show With Love, Meghan is a move that needed to happen,” he told Royal Insider.

“As a resident of California who is caught in the middle of one of the worst natural disasters they have ever experienced, it would have seemed tone deaf to have aired the show,” he then added.
