Today (Monday, January 20) sees Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh turn 60 years old.
The royal family’s Instagram account shared new photos of the Duchess of Edinburgh on her milestone birthday.
Alongside the stunning pictures of the duchess, the caption reads: “As The Duchess looks ahead to turning 60, Her Royal Highness has a renewed sense of excitement and commitment to her work around gender equality and looks forward to further embracing and championing this issue in the years to come.”
Prince William, 42, and Kate, 43, then shared the photo on their Instagram account.
“Wishing The Duchess of Edinburgh a very happy 60th birthday today!” they wrote.

So what does the royal family have in store for Sophie on her birthday?
According to Grant Harrold, a former royal butler, the king could be organising a birthday party for his sister-in-law.
Everyone will be making a fuss of her.
Speaking exclusively to Royal Insider on behalf of JeffBet, he said: “I have no doubt that the king will be planning a birthday party for her probably at Clarence House with as many royals there as possible.”
“Sophie is a really lovely person and is very well loved and respected within the family and with the public. I’m sure she will also be having private celebrations with her own family. Everyone will be making a fuss of her,” he added.
Prince Edward will make sure Sophie will ‘feel very special’ on her birthday
Grant then went on to tell us that Sophie’s husband, Prince Edward, will ensure his wife feels “very special” on her big day.
“Edward will make sure she feels very special and it is a real milestone for her. It’s actually hard to believe she’s 60 as she looks so good,” he said.
“The king and queen will no doubt get her presents as will the rest of the royals as well as her party. She is a senior member of the royal family and a very important and crucial one. But regarding the speculation she will get a new title, I don’t think she will as she is now the Duchess of Edinburgh following the passing of Queen Elizabeth and that’s a big title.”

In other Sophie-related news, the duchess was recently described as being the king’s “secret weapon”.
“Now, more than ever, we’re seeing what a vital cog Sophie is in the royal machine. People say she is the ‘secret weapon’ within the monarchy, and I think that’s absolutely true, because she’s always there at pivotal moments to help steady the ship,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told OK! magazine.
“She’s seen as a very safe pair of hands, which really became evident during the final years of the late queen’s life as she relied more and more on her substitutes.”
