Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh has two children with husband Prince Edward – Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.

The two grandchildren of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip have somewhat of a ‘normal’ life within the monarchy.

Sophie, 60, has previously spoken about ensuring her kids know they are “very likely” to have to work for a living. Let’s take a look into Lady Louise’s life from not having a title to the summer job she once had.

Duchess Sophie’s daughter Lady Louise Windsor doesn’t have a HRH title

Neither Louise nor James, 17, use HRH or prince and princess titles. This is because Sophie and Prince Edward made his decision at the time of their births.

Sophie previously explained the reasoning during an interview with The Sunday Times. She said in 2020: “We try to bring them up with the understanding that they are very likely to have to work for a living. Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

“They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but it’s highly unlikely.”

After Louise turned 18, she didn’t use her HRH title. James will turn 18 in December 2025. James is 15th in line to the throne, while Louise is 16th.
