Why Prince William and Princess Kate are 'expressing themselves in a way they've never done before' after cancer ordeal

The past year has been a journey of resilience for Prince William and Princess Kate, whose relationship has reached new depths following her cancer battle.
For the royal couple, the challenges of 2024 brought not only hardship but also a greater openness in expressing their love and gratitude for one another it seems.
Throughout Kate’s cancer, William was by her side and supported his wife and the family.

Prince William and Princess Kate ‘more open’ with their relationship
A royal insider has told PEOPLE that the Prince and Princess of Wales are “more open now” and “talk about their relationship together”.
Meanwhile, a royal commentator has explained how the couple are now “able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before”.
The ordeal began in January 2024 when Kate underwent abdominal surgery, leading to a diagnosis of cancer.
Shielded from public view, she quietly began chemotherapy at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital.
They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.
Late last year, Prince William, 42, described the ordeal as “brutal”, acknowledging the strain it placed on their family.
With both Kate and his father, King Charles, battling cancer, William admitted during a South Africa trip: “[It’s] probably the hardest year of my life.”
For Kate, remission has brought a sense of relief and optimism.
On January 14 this year, Kate confidently returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital – this time as an advocate for others still fighting their battles.

William and Kate ‘able to express themselves’
Throughout their journey, the couple has shown a newfound willingness to share their emotions publicly.
Kate’s September 2024 video announcing her completion of chemotherapy offered a rare, intimate glimpse into her life with William and their children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.
In a June 2024 social media post celebrating William’s birthday, Kate wrote: “We all love you so much!”
In turn, William shared a heartfelt message for Kate’s birthday on January 9 this year.
“To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis, and I are so proud of you… We love you,” he penned.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward told PEOPLE: “William must feel so fortunate that Kate has come through this that he wants to tell the world about that love.
“It shows the intimacy of them sharing that journey together. They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”

Princess Kate announces she’s in remission with her cancer
As Kate expressed in her January 14 statement about being in remission: “I’m looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.”
Kate’s compassion was shown during her recent visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Lung cancer patient Angela Terry described the princess’s warmth: “The level of connection she makes with each and every person she meets is phenomenal.”
Another patient, Rebecca Mendelsohn, shared her experience. She told MailOnline: “She put her hand out and I don’t know who went to hug who first, it was mutual connection. I felt that hug. She was giving me the love and I was giving her the love. It felt so true.”
