King Charles has received support from his family, especially his wife Queen Camilla, during his cancer battle.

The king was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, but didn’t reveal what type of the disease he has. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Throughout the tough time, Camilla, 77, has remained a steadfast support for her husband, 76, despite reportedly feeling “emotionally worn down” by the ordeal.

Let’s take a look at how the queen consort has been King Charles’ rock this past year.

King Charles statement on his cancer diagnosis

Last February, Buckingham Palace announced the king had been diagnosed with cancer. It came shortly after he underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate in January.

A statement at the time read: “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

He’s the love of her life, her partner, her husband of almost 20 years. Of course, she was scared.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

The king’s treatment has continued this year, but reports claim that it’s “moving in a positive direction”.

Queen Camilla was ‘frightened’ over Charles’ cancer

In between royal duties, Queen Camilla has been caring for King Charles amid his illness and has been at his side as he continues his treatment.

Early last year, she also stepped in for some duties as the king had his treatment including the annual Royal Maundy Service.

However, according to previous reports, the queen felt “frightened” over King Charles’ cancer.

A close friend of Camilla’s told the MailOnline last year: “He’s the love of her life, her partner, her husband of almost 20 years. Of course, she was scared.

“She makes him laugh like no one else. Frankly it’s a lonely enough job when there’s two of you. So you can imagine what it’s like when there’s just one of you out on the road.”

The insider also claimed that Camilla had been “worn down from what has been an emotionally and physically challenging year”.

Camilla has been ‘splendid support’ for husband

Elsewhere, royal commentators has spoken of Camilla’s support for her husband.

Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News in October 2024: “Queen Camilla’s been such a splendid support, and he seems to be doing extremely well. He’s done so remarkably well.”

Meanwhile, reports did suggest that Camilla was worried about Charles working too much during his treatment. It came as she and the king travelled to Australia and Samoa for a tour later in 2024.

A source told the Daily Beast in October: “She is terrified. They have had a horrendous year. Now with this return to work, she is understandably fearful her husband is rushing it.

“She just wants him to slow down and prioritise his health.”
