The Prince Harry court case drama reached a settlement yesterday (January 22) for a “substantial” sum. And now, one of Harry’s family members has weighed in with their true thoughts.

Charles Spencer, Harry’s uncle, has explained he believes his late sister, Princess Diana, would be “proud” of her son.

Along with Lord Tom Watson, former Labour deputy leader, Harry, 40, had brought legal action against News Group Newspapers (NGN) over allegations of unlawful information gathering by journalists and private investigators between 1996 to 2011. Along with this, he also alleged that executives covered it all up.

Prince Harry court settlement praised by uncle Charles Spencer

A court case was set to begin this week and reports claimed that Harry would return to the UK to attend the High Court. However, now the involved parties have reached a ‘substantial’ settlement.

His uncle Charles, 60, shared an article about Prince Harry‘s win. In his statement he praised his nephew’s “guts” and “tenacity”.

He commented on Instagram: “It takes an enormous amount of guts to take on major media organisations like this. And incredible tenacity to win against them.

“It’s wonderful that Harry also secured an apology for his mother – she would be immensely touched by this, I’m sure. And also rightly proud. Well done indeed.”

Charles’ comments about the Prince Harry court case come after a royal commentator suggested the royal family will feel “grateful” over his “monumental win”.

NGN issued an apology for their “serious intrusion” by The Sun and confirmed they will pay “substantial damages”.

NGN issued apology to Harry over ‘serious intrusion’

A statement read: “NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun newspaper between 1996 and 2011 into his private life. Including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun.

“NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life. As well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother. In particular, during his younger years.”

It takes an enormous amount of guts to take on major media organisations like this.

It concluded: “We acknowledge and apologise for the distress caused to the duke. And the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family. And have agreed to pay him substantial damages.”

Another statement was released on behalf of Prince Harry, celebrating that “the truth” had finally “been exposed”.

Prince Harry court case statement

It read: “In a monumental victory today, News UK have admitted that The Sun, the flagship title for Rupert Murdoch’s UK media empire, has indeed engaged in illegal practices.

“The truth that has now been exposed is that NGN unlawfully engaged more than 100 private investigators over the last 16 years on more than 35,000 occasions. This happened as much at The Sun as it did at the News of the World, with knowledge of all the Editors and executives.”

The statement continued: “Today’s result has been achieved only through the sheer resilience of Prince Harry and Lord Watson, whose willingness to take NGN to trial has led directly to this historic admission of unlawfulness at The Sun.

“It has only been by taking NGN – not just to the steps of court but inside the court room itself – that these Claimants have finally managed to extract this historic admission of guilt.”

Over the years, the royal family has had to deal with comments or pressure because of the court case.

The statement concluded: “As a direct result of him taking a stand, Prince Harry and his immediate family have also had to repeatedly withstand aggressive and vengeful coverage since starting this claim over five years ago. This has created serious concerns for the security of him and his family.”

It’s not known exactly how much the settlement amount is, but it’s been reported that it’s likely an eight-figure sum.
