Some of the monarch's favourite foods have been revealed over the yearsKing Charles seems to have a healthy diet and has recently made a change to a years-long habit amid his cancer diagnosis.
The monarch, 76, was diagnosed with cancer last year. He has been undergoing treatment since.
There’s been speculation over the king’s favourite and go-to meals over the years. Let’s take a look into how King Charles stays healthy with his diet.

King Charles ends years-long diet habit of skipping lunch after cancer diagnosis
The king was known for skipping lunch over the years. According to reports, King Charles would usually skip the meal as he was too busy. He apparently saw it as a “luxury” which interfered with his work.
However, it seems he has changed the habit after orders from his wife Queen Camilla, royal aides and his doctors following his cancer diagnosis.
The king now ensures he has lunch to keep his strength up amid his cancer treatment. The Daily Mail claimed late last year that Charles enjoys “half an avocado” at lunchtime.
A source said: “With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime – a snack, really. He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.”

What King Charles eats for breakfast
Before lunch, King Charles is said to be a fan of breakfast. According to reports, the monarch enjoys eggs for brekkie.
Clarence House’s official Instagram page previously shared one of King Charles’ favourite brunch recipes – cheesy baked eggs. Yum!
Meanwhile, royal author Tina Brown wrote in her book The Palace Papers that the king also enjoys nuts and seeds in the morning.
What the king eats for dinner
Meanwhile, when it comes to dinner, King Charles and wife Queen Camilla are said to be fans of hearty meals.
Mervyn Wycherley, who worked at the palace as a chef for 33 years, recently shared some details on the royal family’s eating habits.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Mervyn said: “The food is quite simplistic. They love simple foods, but always very good quality foods, very organic. It’s always been the same, all of the family have an interest in food, especially His Royal Highness, the king now, he’s very, very interested in his food, and enjoys putting his oar in and with menus and all sorts of things.
“If dinner was done in Highgrove [Charles’ country home] and it was just them on their own, they would just have card tables in the drawing room and have a very simple dinner. It’s just first course, main course, dessert.”
King Charles on why he doesn’t eat dairy products on ‘one day a week’
In 2021, the then Prince Charles shared some details about his eating habits. He told the BBC: “For years I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week.”
The king is also said to love Italian food. Former royal chef Darren McGrady once told Delish in 2020: “I really liked Prince Charles. He was a foodie, he loved to know what was being served and where it was sourced from.
“I used to cook lamb a lot at Buckingham Palace. When the Prince of Wales was there it was often on the menu. He’d request it. He’s a big fan of lamb.”
He added: “One of the things I noticed about the Prince of Wales is his love of Italian food.”
King ‘prefers a cup of tea over coffee’
When it comes to hot drinks, the king reportedly prefers a cuppa over a coffee.
His former butler Grant Harrold told Coffee Friend: “The late queen, Prince Philip, and King Charles definitely prefer a cup of tea over coffee. They were tea lovers to the very end. They probably had coffee from time to time, but tea was their go-to.”
