Prince Harry has been criticised as “callous” by Paul Burrell, a former confidant of the late Princess Diana, following his distance from the royal family.

Paul, who was Harry’s mother Diana’s butler for 10 years, claims the Duke of Sussex, 40, has abandoned his family and his royal duty.

He also argued that Prince Harry’s actions have created lasting damage. Paul believes that this has made reconciliation with his brother, Prince William, virtually impossible.

Paul Burrell calls Prince Harry ‘very callous’ after stepping away from royal family

Speaking to Royal Insider on behalf of Prime Casino, Paul believes Harry has little concern for the consequences of his actions.

“No, I don’t think there’s any time for reconciliation,” he said, referring to Harry’s fractured relationship with his older brother. “What William can see is what I can see – that Harry is focused on a different direction, and he doesn’t really care about what wreckage he leaves behind.”

According to Paul, Harry has severed ties with his past life and remains distanced from the pain he has caused in the UK.

He said: “He can wreck people’s lives on this side of the world and then return to his Montecito mansion in California, close the gates, and forget the world. I think it’s very callous and very unfeeling. Certainly for the people who knew him and grew up with him, and certainly for his family.”

The former royal butler also claimed that Harry has “lost respect” for the monarchy.

There’s no chance of him rehabilitating himself back into the culture of our country.

Speaking of Diana, he seemed adamant that the late princess would not have approved: “She was a royalist, and she loved the fact that her sons were part of the royal family.”

He also emphasised that Prince Harry has turned his back on his royal responsibilities.

Paul explained: “Harry still has to remember that his brother will be king one day. His base should have been beside him. He’s neglected his duty, the people of this country, his country. It’s gone.

“There is no chance of reconciliation. There’s no chance of him rehabilitating himself back into the culture of our country.”

Meghan and Harry ‘living part of the dream which Princess Diana wanted to live’

Paul shared a close friendship with Diana. He believes that while the late princess would have supported Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from royal life for independence, she would have strongly disapproved of the way they have gone about it.

Harry and Meghan now live in California with their two children. They stepped back from their senior royal roles in early 2020.

“Harry and Meghan are living part of the dream which Diana wanted to live. She also wanted independence and she wanted to live in America,” he said.

He added: “But not at the cost of denigrating the royal family, because that part of it was sacred to Diana.”

He emphasised that Diana never turned her back on the monarchy. This is despite her own personal struggles within the royal institution.

Paul also concluded that Diana would have “saluted their independence”. However, she would not have agreed with “the meddling ways of upsetting the institution”.

He added: ” For Harry to slam the door into the face of the monarchy, Diana would not approve of that.”

With Prince William focused on his future as king and Harry seemingly settled into his new life in California, Paul believes the door to reconciliation is now firmly closed.
