Princess Beatrice follows sweet royal family tradition by giving baby daughter the middle name Elizabeth
This is Beatrice's second child
Princess Beatrice has welcomed her second child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and her baby daughter’s name is already making headlines.
Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi was born on January 22, 2025, at 12:57pm, weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.
The couple’s choice of name honours not only their family’s legacy but also Beatrice’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Beatrice gives birth to baby girl and shares her name
While Athena’s first name is unique, it is her middle name, Elizabeth, that carries significance.
It is a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Beatrice’s grandmother, who died in 2022.
The name Elizabeth is a special one within the royal family. It has been passed down through generations, keeping the memory of the queen alive in her descendants.
The queen’s own daughter, Princess Anne, shares the middle name Elizabeth, as do her granddaughter Lady Louise Windsor and great-granddaughter Princess Charlotte.

Meanwhile, Zara Tindall and her daughter Lena also have the middle name Elizabeth. Athena’s older sister, Sienna Elizabeth, is another example of following the tradition.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daugther Lilibet, born in 2021, honours the queen with her first name. Lilibet was the queen’s nickname used by the family.
Princess Beatrice herself even carries the middle name Elizabeth. Athena now joins this group, linking the new generation to the monarchy’s longest-serving monarch.

Beatrice and Edoardo are ‘healthy and doing well’ after welcoming baby daughter
The news of Athena’s birth came as a surprise, as the baby arrived several weeks earlier than expected.
Nonetheless, the palace confirmed that both Princess Beatrice and her newborn daughter are “healthy and doing well”.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm. The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces,” the official palace statement read.

Royal family ‘delighted’ over new baby
“The king and queen, and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news. Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.”
Proud father, Edoardo, also shared his joy on social media.
