Why Princess Eugenie hasn't 'supported' Meghan Markle on Instagram amid 'trouble' fears

At the beginning of 2025, Meghan went public on a new Instagram account. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, hasn’t had a social media account since before she joined the royal family. But 2025 seemingly marks a whole new era.
But one thing that’s evident is that none of the royal family members have supported the account in any way. Nobody has followed her, or liked any of her posts it seems. While that’s not surprising for some, many thought Princess Eugenie would have been the one to do so, since the pair have been close for years.
Why Princess Eugenie isn’t following Meghan Markle on Instagram
Meghan’s return to social media came right before she announced her brand new Netflix show.
With Love, Meghan has been delayed until March due to the LA wildfires. It was originally supposed to premiere on January 15.
That would instantly cause comment that she was breaking from the rest of the royal family.
But the lack of familial support on her social media isn’t surprising to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. He told GB News that it would be highly unlikely that any of the family will ever interact with her online – including Eugenie.
He said: “The royal family wouldn’t touch them officially in that regard. But Eugenie is friendly with them and also has the Portugal connection. That could develop more conventionally. But I would be surprised if Eugenie ever liked or was openly supportive.”
The princess and the duchess have had a close relationship over the years. During Harry and Meghan’s 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan in California, Eugenie featured in a Californian visit. This unexpected appearance proved to everyone that despite the family ‘rift’, some still remained close to Harry and Meghan.
Along with this, Meghan and Harry are believed to have bought a home at Portugal’s exclusive CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club. It just so happens to be minutes away from a property Eugenie and her family own, reports claim.
However, despite the bond, Richard doesn’t think Eugenie could ever do anything to support Meghan on social media. The reason being; it would make her different to the rest of her family.
He said: “That would instantly cause comment that she was breaking from the rest of the royal family, who are clearly at a rift. So no one will do that.”
Richard believes that everyone in the family would be aware “it would cause instant trouble”.
Meghan and Harry have remained close to Eugenie
Meghan and Harry moved to California in 2020 after they stepped down from their senior royal duties. After they made the decision, a rift seemingly formed in the family. Meghan and Harry, 40, spoke out about their own issues they had faced, and the pair signed book and TV deals detailing their experiences.
While Harry and his brother, Prince William, have only been out publicly a handful of times since, it’s believed that the pair rarely speak.
Meghan and Harry have stayed in the US ever since, raising their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three. But while we know the couple remain close with Prince Andrew’s daughter Eugenie, we still don’t know if they’re kids are close too.
Richard continued: “Will we see Archie and Lilibet meet with Eugenie and Jack’s children and so on? And how will that work out? We’ve yet to know.”
But Richard does agree that the bond with Eugenie is “quite interesting” and does bring about “a lot of question marks” regarding the future.
