Singer Nelly Furtado cruelly trolled after sharing video with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: ‘Beyond cringe’

The 46-year-old met the royal couple after performing at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games over the weekend.

Over the weekend, the Invictus Games 2025 kicked off in Vancouver, Canada.
Amongst the stars at the opening ceremony was Nelly Furtado – the singer best known for songs such as Maneater and I’m Like A Bird.
The star was performing in the opening ceremony – and got the chance to meet the Sussexes after the show.
In a video shared on her Instagram, Nelly and Meghan, 43, could be seen dancing to her song, I’m Like A Bird.
However, a surprise guest made a hilarious appearance as he walked by in the background.
The surprise guest was none other than Prince Harry!
“They’re beautiful, that’s for sure [heart emoji] @meghan @weareinvictusgames,” Nelly captioned the post, which was seen by her 1.6 million followers.

However, some trolls weren’t impressed with her meeting with the Sussexes, with some branding the video as “cringe”.
“Beyond cringe,” one troll commented.
“Sad day for you! She [Meghan] only photo-bombed you for herself!” another wrote.
“Nelly you don’t want to be hanging out with these two. You’re so much more classier than them. Seriously,” a third said.
However, there was plenty of positivity on Nelly’s post.

Meanwhile, a third gushed: “Love this. Love Harry in the background.”
Nelly shared a series of snaps from her time performing at the ceremony on Instagram. One clip showed the star posing for snaps with Harry and Meghan.
“I had so much fun putting together this performance for The Invictus Games opening ceremony. Thank you so much to @ill_abilities and @mattmaconlin for your energy and inspiration. Blessings to all of the competitors – thanks for sharing your light with us all,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Harry found an opportunity to open up about his late mum at the Invictus Games this week.
Speaking to Canadian channel CTV, he said of his son: “Archie was asking about landmines so I was talking about how some of these guys were blown up.
“I think IEDs [Improvised explosive devices] are probably a little much at this point but I found myself talking to him about mines, he’s five years old.”

Meghan has made a return to the entertainment world, launching projects with Netflix alongside Harry. In January 2025, she announced a lifestyle show named With Love, Meghan, which will see her giving cooking and gardening tips to viewers alongside a host of celebrity guests. It will premiere on March 4, 2025.
“Interestingly, it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didn’t even really consider so that became the outcome of the story for him,” he then said.
“He wanted to see videos and photographs of his grandma Diana out doing her thing for landmines all those years ago. It produced a very interesting conversation between me and him, different to what I thought it would be.”
