US President Donald Trump recently vowed “leave Prince Harry alone” amid visa and deportation fears.

Insiders have now claimed that his “warm relationship” with King Charles as the key reason behind his change of stance.

Trump had previously said he wouldn’t protect the Duke of Sussex if he was found to have lied on his US visa application about his past drug use.

Donald Trump decides to ‘leave Harry alone’

There has been much uncertainty surrounding Harry’s visa status. American think tank The Heritage Foundation is challenging whether Harry properly disclosed his past drug use when applying for a US visa, and wants the documents made public.

He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.

It also argues that Harry shouldn’t have received his visa due to his past drug use – something Harry admitted in his 2023 memoir Spare.

Despite previously warning Harry wouldn’t be given special treatment in the situation, the president confirmed last week that he has no plans to take action against the Duke of Sussex’s US visa status.

Speaking to the New York Post, Trump dismissed the idea of expelling Harry.

“I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” he said.

Sources now suggest that his decision is actually rooted in his respect for King Charles, rather than personal grievances against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

According to The Sun, Trump does not want to cause distress to King Charles, whom he has grown close to over the years.

“Having [Harry] back in the UK is actually harder than having him kept away in the USA,” the insider claimed.

The president and the king developed a bond during Trump’s 2019 state visit to the UK, where he and First Lady Melania Trump had tea with Charles and Camilla at Clarence House.

When Trump survived an assassination attempt last September, Charles reportedly sent him a private message of support. Similarly, the king congratulated Trump on his inauguration this year.

Donald Trump’s attacks on Meghan and Harry

On the other hand, Trump’s hostility toward Meghan and Harry has been evident for years.

He recently described her as “terrible” and claimed she “led Harry around by his nose”. Trump also accused the couple of disrespecting the late Queen Elizabeth II by stepping back from their royal duties.

Despite his strained relationship with Harry and Meghan, Trump’s ties to the royal family remain intact.

In December 2024, Harry’s older brother Prince William met Trump at the historic re-opening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

After their meeting, Trump praised William and called him “a good man”.

While Trump has made it clear he is no fan of Meghan and Harry, he has seemingly chosen not to take action against Prince Harry’s US residency – out of respect for King Charles.

For now, it seems that Harry and Meghan can remain in the US with no interference from the White House.
