Queen Camilla’s inner circle from her younger days - the friends who knew she'd one day be queen
Camilla has several trusted palsCamilla has been surrounded by friends who’ve known she’d be queen since crossing paths when they were younger.
From the godmother of one of her children to one of King Charles’ lesser-known cousins, here’s an inside look at Queen Camilla‘s close inner circle of pals…

Queen Camilla was friends with Lady Lansdowne when she was younger
The former High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Lady Lansdowne – aka Fiona Shelburne – has been a close friend of Camilla’s for over 40 years. She is even the godmother of Camilla’s daughter from her previous marriage, Laura Lopes.
She has previously claimed that Camilla was “born” for the role of queen.

During an interview with the BBC after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022, Fiona said that Camilla was “born” for the role.
She added that Camilla would be a “huge support” to Charles in the role.
Lady Lansdowne then added that though the situation would be surreal for Camilla, she was confident her friend “completely understands” her role and “will absolutely do it right”.

Lady Sarah Keswick
Another friendship that goes back decades is that of Camilla’s and Lady Sarah Keswick.
Lady Sarah and her late husband, Sir John “Chips” Keswick, have been friends with the king and queen since the 1970s.
She is now one of Her Majesty’s Companions – and is usually described as being one of the queen’s closest confidantes.

King Charles’ cousin Sarah Troughton is friends with Camilla
Another close friend of the queen’s is Sarah Troughton, Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, one of her Companions.
Sarah has known Camilla for close to 40 years – and also just so happens to be King Charles’ second cousin.
I defy anybody not to be charmed by a smile from the duchess.
They are related through her mother, who was a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Sarah has spoken highly of Camilla in the past. She once appeared on GMB, where she said: “I defy anybody not to be charmed by a smile from the duchess.”

Gyles Brandreth said Camilla would be ‘least stuffy queen in history’
Gyles Brandreth is another good friend of Queen Camilla.
TV star and writer Gyles and Queen Camilla first met when they were younger too, as teenagers. The former MP even confessed to having a crush on the queen when they were younger.
Speaking in 2022, after Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Gyles wrote in a piece for the Daily Mail: “I first met Camilla when we were both teenagers in the 1960s. I was at a boarding school in Hampshire and visited her grandparents at their rather grand manor house, Hall Place, nearby.
“She is going to be the least stuffy queen in history, and exactly the consort the new king needs: as charming as the Queen Mother, as committed as Queen Mary, and as kind as Queen Alexandra.”
In July 2022, alongside Joanna Lumley, Gyles hosted a party for Camilla’s 75th birthday.
