Princess Kate has been tipped to avoid participating in a royal tour with Prince William due to the “tremendous stress” it would place on her following her cancer battle.

Kate, 43, faced a tough 2024 following her cancer diagnosis and treatment. She announced in January 2025 that she’s in remission.

Now, as Kate gradually returns to her duties, a royal commentator has shared his thoughts on whether we could see Kate on an overseas tour this year.

Princess Kate may not go on overseas royal tour after cancer battle

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the Princess of Wales is unlikely to join her husband Prince William on an international royal tour anytime soon.

This is especially given the immense public scrutiny surrounding her recovery.

“A tour abroad would be so tremendously stressful for her, with the knowledge the world is watching,” Richard told GB News.

Meanwhile, a palace official claimed Princess Kate” still requires her doctors’ permission to travel abroad, as her recovery continues following her successful battle against cancer”.

Royal Insider has contacted reps for Kensington Palace for comment.

Kate kept a low public profile after announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024.

The princess revealed that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment, leading her to temporarily step back from royal duties.

The Princess of Wales shared an emotional statement in January 2025. She confirmed that she was officially in remission after completing her treatment last summer.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” Kate said at the time.

While this marked a major milestone in her health journey, Kensington Palace sources stressed that she would continue to prioritise her wellbeing and her family.

Princess Kate and Prince William miss the BAFTAs

Kate’s absence from several major royal events in the past year underscores the careful approach being taken toward her return.

Notably, the princess missed the prestigious BAFTA Film Awards in 2024. She and William also missed the 2025 ceremony on February 16.

But this year, William did make a virtual appearance through a pre-recorded video.

Instead of attending the awards ceremony, William, Kate and their three children are reportedly enjoying a Caribbean holiday.

Kate ‘doesn’t want her children taking part in blooding tradition’

In other Kate news, she has reportedly ensured that her kids Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, will not take part in a controversial royal hunting tradition. It dates back generations.

The tradition is known as “blooding”. It occurs after a royal makes their first successful hunt, typically a fox or stag.

The young royal’s face is then smeared with the animal’s blood. King Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry all experienced this tradition.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry recalled his own blooding at the age of 15. He described how his guide shoved his head into a stag’s carcass after the kill.

However, according to royal author Tom Quinn in his new book Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, Kate has drawn a line.

“Catherine, Princess of Wales, has put her foot down and insisted there will be no blooding for her children,” Tom wrote.
