Prince Harry could leave his father King Charles “not pleased” with his plans for the 2027 Invictus Games.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, recently hosted the games in Canada. He created the Invictus Games in 2014. It’s an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick military service personnel, both serving and veterans.

Following the end of the 2025 games, it was announced that the 2027 edition of the Invictus Games will be held in Birmingham in the UK.

However, the games may clash with an important milestone for Queen Camilla, 77.

Prince Harry to hold 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham

It was announced recently that the 2027 Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham in July 2027.

However, Queen Camilla will celebrate her milestone 80th birthday the same month on July 17.

It would surely have been tactful to choose another month.

And if the games take place around Camilla’s birthday, it could cause some friction between Harry and his family.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has discussed the news, saying King Charles, 76, will not be pleased over this “totally avoidable prospective clash”.

Royals ‘won’t attend’ Invictus Games with Prince Harry in the UK

Speaking to Royal Insider, Richard said: “Nobody could or would question the enormous success of the Invictus Games, which is Harry’s creation.

“He is bringing the games, first staged in London in 2014, back to Britain in 2027, when they will be held in Birmingham in July.

“This is the same month that Queen Camilla’s milestone 80th birthday will be celebrated, on 17th July.”

He continued: “Obviously we don’t know if the royal rift will have been healed wholly or partly by then. It is, nonetheless, the first time the games will have been held in July. It would surely have been tactful to choose another month.”

Richard said although several senior royals attended the first games in 2014, this seems “unlikely to happen in 2027”.

Richard went on to say that Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have “never shown much appreciation of the need to avoid clashes with royal diaries”.

He continued: “But in this case, looking two years ahead, it would surely have been wise. It was Harry’s criticism of Queen Camilla in Spare and the interviews around it that led to their eviction from Frogmore Cottage, which was their base in Britain.

“King Charles will not be pleased at this totally avoidable prospective clash which, needless to say, will be accompanied by enormous interest from the media.”

Harry’s relationship with his family became fractured after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in early 2020.
