Sad news for Princess Eugenie as friend Michelle Trachtenberg dies aged 39

Michelle Trachtenberg, a close friend to Princess Eugenie, has died at the age of 39 as an outpouring of grief has been seen on social media.

The heartbreaking news was announced on Wednesday (February 26).

Michelle Trachtenberg death announced at 39

Michelle was best known for her roles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl.

She starred as Buffy’s sister, Dawn Summers, for over 60 episodes between 2000 and 2003.

Additionally, Michelle also played a starring role as Georgina Sparks in the iconic drama Gossip Girl. She appeared in 28 episodes across its six series, and returned for the reboot in 2022.

Michelle also starred in shows such as Law & Order, House, Mercy, and NCIS: Los Angeles. She also starred alongside Zac Efron in 17 Again and had roles in Inspector Gadget and Take Me Home Tonight.

Michelle was found unresponsive at her apartment in New York. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. However, her death is not being treated as suspicious.

“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss,” her family said in a statement.

Princess Eugenie and Michelle Trachtenberg’s friendship

Eugenie, 34, and Michelle became firm friends during the princess’ time working and living in New York in 2013.

They watched a basketball match together in 2013. Three years later, Michelle then shared a snap of herself and Eugenie on Instagram.

Eventually, Eugenie moved back to the UK. However, her friendship with Michelle endured. In 2020, Michelle shared a snap of herself and Eugenie. In a heartfelt caption, she described the princess as one of the “dearest, kindest, and most genuine of friends”.

“This is a #throwback post. And a dedication to an amazing person. I met this wonderful human years ago in New York. Eugenie has been one of the most dearest, kindest, most genuine friends I have ever had in my life,” she wrote.

“As we are going through these very challenging times. I’m finding new levels of gratitude. I am grateful for the relationships I have made over the years,” she added.

Princess Eugenie pays tribute to ‘special friend’

On her Instagram Stories, Princess Eugenie paid tribute to Michelle.

She wrote: “Goodbye special friend. You are so loved and missed. Thank you for so many memories of laughter and fun. You were so thoughtful, generous and soooo funny.

“My favourite was listening to you order food, always done with precision so you got exactly what we all wanted.

“I’m thinking of you up there friend, of your spirit that was so bright, and your joy brought so many.”
