Princess Kate has left royal fans stunned after making a remark about jam, just days after Meghan Markle announced a major rebrand.

The Princess of Wales, 43, made the surprising remark during a trip to Wales yesterday (Wednesday, February 26).

Princess Kate and Prince William visit Wales

On Wednesday, Kate and Prince William visited Pontypridd in South Wales.

The royal couple were there ahead of St David’s Day, which is on Saturday (March 1).

During their visit, the royal couple visited the Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland, just outside the town. Whilst there, they were given a tour of the woodland walks and home-grown produce.

They also visited the Welsh Cake Shop in Pontypridd Market, which has been there since 1805. The royal couple helped make the Welsh cakes before having a cup of tea with the business owners.

However, it was during their visit to the community garden that the subject of jams came up.

Princess Kate makes ‘jam’ remark amid Meghan Markle brand announcement

While walking through the forest, Kate asked volunteers what sorts of things they were getting involved in.

A volunteer then pointed out a tree that was growing plums for them, which they were turning into jam.

“I just saw it!” Kate then exclaimed. William then chipped in, saying that his wife’s jam is “amazing”.

Kate then added: “I’ll send you my recipe so you can try it.”

In 2012, it was reported that Kate had given away jam and preserves as Christmas presents.

Whilst usually Kate’s comment about jam would be seen as nothing more than a throwaway remark – following Meghan Markle’s rebranding announcement, it’s taken on some extra significance.

Meghan Markle set to sell jam through new brand As Ever

Earlier this week, Meghan announced that her business, American Riviera Orchard, would be going by a different name – As Ever.

In a video announcing the news on Instagram, Meghan also spoke about some of the products customers could expect from the brand.

One of the products was jam and preservatives.

“Of course, there will be fruit preserves, I think we’re all clear at this point that jam is my jam,” she said in the video.

This is just a competitive statement with Meghan’s jam!

So was Kate’s comment just a general remark about her fondness for making jams at home? Or was it a subtle dig at her estranged sister-in-law?

Taking to X, some fans reckon Kate’s comment was a jibe at Meghan.

“I doubt Kate has ever made plum jam – this is just a competitive statement with Meghan’s jam!” one tweeted.

“So Kate was telling people in Wales today about her ‘PLUM’ jam recipe. I honestly nearly fell off my sofa laughing, I kid you not…,” another wrote.

One Meghan and Harry fan wrote: “Awww look how desperate William and Kate are to steal Meghan’s thunder.”

Meanwhile, royal commentator Russell Myers also weighed in on Kate’s comment. He quipped on ITV daytime show Lorraine: “Everyone has of course lost their minds over this because the duchesses and the princesses must be at war!

“But apparently Kate has been making jam since about 2012, so who did it first? I don’t want to draw divisions but this is where we are.”
