Prince William distracts Aston Villa fans at football match: 'He's finally able to relax'
The prince has always been supportive of Aston VillaPrince William appeared thrilled at the Aston Villa football match last night (March 12), and fans were glad to see him looking so relaxed.
The 42-year-old Prince of Wales has always been a huge football supporter. On many occasions,he has publicly shared his adoration for his team, Aston Villa.
Last night was no different. With images of the prince appearing to be having the time of his life going viral on X, it seems his love and appreciation for football has never faded. With a 3-0 victory to his favourite team, the heir to the throne was having a wonderful night.
Prince William at Aston Villa match
Appearing at the Champions League match against Club Brugge in Birmingham, Prince William was seen cheering throughout the game. The match came one day after he visited players at their training ground at Bodymoor Heath.
As patron of the Football Association, William’s appearance at the matches isn’t uncommon. But it always seems like the place where he has a lot of fun – away from proper royal engagements.
He attended last night’s match alongside his childhood friend Thomas van Straubenzee, who is also the godfather to William’s daughter Princess Charlotte.
The Prince of Wales has already made quite a few visits to Aston Villa matches this year, and in January he even bought other football supporters a pint in a local Wetherspoons.
Taking to X when the videos and images of William were shared, fans expressed how much they love seeing this particular side to the prince.
One image showed Prince William and his pals cheering and laughing, while holding a drink that appeared to be almost spilling. The supporters were wearing branded football scarves. The user captioned it: “I really do love Prince William.”
This encouraged another user to respond: “I think he is finally able to relax and have some fun after the rough year they have had.”
Another commented: “I love to see Prince William happy and living his best life!”
In another clip shared on X, Prince William can be seen cheering whenever Aston Villa’s team made a good move.
The user penned: “Prince William’s football videos are always the best. He is so passionate about Aston Villa and football.”
William and Kate have been more publicly ‘at ease’ recently
William’s football trip comes just mere days after his big appearance at the Commonwealth Day service, where he appeared alongside his wife, Kate. It marked the return of Kate to the Commonwealth service after she was forced to miss last year’s due to her cancer treatment.
The pair put on a united front and walked together, with a lot of fans even spotting an adorable moment from the couple where they shared a giggle.
At the end of last month, the couple also made a trip to Wales where they appeared to be more affectionate than usual. And it looked likely that was their new normal after Kate’s recent cancer journey.
In a video shared to their joint Instagram account, William and Kate walked through a train station hand in hand – something they would usually stay away from doing in public.
But a body language expert revealed it was to show a “united front” and that they were at “complete ease” with each other. So much so they were acting like they “were almost off-duty”.
It seems Kate and William are really embracing their relaxed eras!
