A rundown on King Charles’ cancer battle and latest update
He shared the news publicly in February 2024.
Since then, the monarch has been undergoing treatment for the undisclosed form of cancer.
But what's the latest update, and why hasn't King Charles revealed the type of cancer he has? Let's take a look.
King Charles cancer diagnosis announcement
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced the king had cancer. A statement read: "During the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual."
The statement added: "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
Why the king hasn’t revealed the type of cancer he has
According to reports, King Charles made the decision not to share the type of cancer he has for a meaningful reason.
A source told The Times in December 2024 that "the king’s decision not to reveal the type of cancer was a conscious choice to be able to reach out to the widest number of people who are experiencing the disease, rather than narrow the focus onto a particular form of cancer".
Latest on king's health
At the time of writing, the king is still undergoing treatment. However, he has returned to performing his duties – just on a scaled down level.
But with his trip to Italy in April 2025 with Queen Camilla, it's a positive sign for the king's health.
Someone else commented: “Ravenna is very honoured to welcome Their Majesties the king and queen.”
The visit comes amid King Charles’ cancer battle. He announced his diagnosis last February and has been undergoing treatment since.
