This week, documents regarding Harry’s US visa were made public. However, they were heavily redacted.
Questions have been raised over whether the duke mentioned any past drug use in the documents – something he openly discussed in his book, Spare. It’s still unknown if Harry did disclose his past drug use in his application.

Prince Harry used drugs and smoked weed at Eton school
The first instance of Harry’s drug use came during his time at Eton, according to the duke.
In Spare, Harry wrote about how he and his mates would smoke weed in the toilets, each taking a turn to take a drag near the window.
“I knew it was bad behaviour. I knew it was wrong. My mates knew too. We talked about it often, while stoned, how stupid we were to be wasting an Eton education,” he wrote. However, despite their plans to go cold turkey during their exam periods, they failed to stick to their pact.
The duke then went on to explain how one night, “while straddling the loo”, smoking a joint, he saw a fox and felt a “kinship” with it.
“Maybe it was the weed – undoubtedly it was the weed – but I felt a piercing and powerful kinship with that fox,” he said.
Believe it or not, but this isn’t even the weirdest confession about drugs Prince Harry made in Spare…
Cocaine confession
Spare also details a couple of occasions in the duke’s life where the tabloids had got hold of information that seemingly exposed Harry’s drug-taking activities.
One instance was when the duke was informed a newspaper editor had come into possession of a photo of Harry snorting a line of cocaine.
Harry denied the claims… well, to the press, at least.
“Of course… I had been doing cocaine around this time. At someone’s country house, during a shooting weekend, I’d been offered a line, and done a few more since. It wasn’t much fun and it didn’t make me particularly happy, as it seemed to make everyone around me, but it did make me feel different, and that was the main goal,” he wrote.
After his run-in with the press about it, Harry realised the drug wasn’t “worth the candle”.
“The risk far outweighed the reward. Threatened with exposure, faced with the prospect of fouling up Granny’s Golden Jubilee, walking a knife’s edge with the mad press – nothing was worth that,” he wrote.
Smoking an ‘entire shopping bag of weed’
During a gap year trip to Lesotho, Harry sat down for an interview with a newspaper. It’s safe to say that the interview didn’t go well from Harry’s perspective. As well as having a snog with a Page 3 girl dredged up, the prince also ranted about not being able to live a “normal” life as a royal.
Later that night, Harry wrote about how he drank a “gallon of beer”.
“I believe that was also the night I smoked an entire shopping bag of weed. I don’t recommend it. Then again, it might have been another night. Hard to be precise when it comes to a shopping bag full of weed,” he wrote.
Prince Harry past drug use included mushrooms at Courteney Cox’s house
In 2016, Harry wrote about how he attended a party in LA, hosted at Courteney Cox’s house.
During his time at the party, Harry and a pal noticed a “huge box of black diamond mushroom chocolates” in the fridge.
“My mate and I grabbed several, gobbled down, washed them down with tequila,” he wrote.
After some time, Harry headed to the loo – which is when the mushrooms kicked in. He hallucinated that not only did the pedal bin in the bathroom turn into a head, but the toilet did too.
“The loo became a head too. The bowl was its gaping maw, the hinges of the seat were its piercing silver eyes,” he said.
The duke claims he left the bathroom giggling after having a chat with the toilet and the bin, describing it as a the “experience of a lifetime” to his mate.
Later that the night, the moon also apparently spoke to Harry. It predicted that he would have a “big year”. 2016 was the year he met Meghan – so maybe the moon was right!
Smoking weed after first date with Meghan
In 2016, Harry had his first date with Meghan.
They went for a drink at a bar in Soho – and though their first meeting was brief, it left a major impression on a love-struck Harry.
After the date, Harry wrote about how he rushed over to his mate’s house in King’s Cross to talk about the meeting.
“Out came the tequila. Out came the weed. We drank and smoked and watched… Inside Out,” he wrote.
Later on, Meghan FaceTimed him – and it was during this call they organised their second date.
And the rest, they say, is history.
