King Charles recently spoken to cancer patients during his Northern Ireland trip as he offered some health advice. Advice that the monarch has likely kept in mind, considering he has been hospitalised once more amid his battle with an undisclosed form of cancer.

In February 2024, the king announced his cancer diagnosis. He has since been continuing with his treatment.

Sadly, on March 27, Buckingham Palace shared that His Majesty was experiencing “temporary side-effects” from his treatment, forcing him to postpone events in his royal diary.

The 76-year-old monarch visited Northern Ireland this week with his wife Queen Camilla. On Thursday (March 20), King Charles visited a cancer research laboratory in the Pharmacy and Pharmacology Department of Ulster University’s Coleraine campus.

King Charles offers cancer patients health advice amid his own battle

According to reports, as he met with fellow cancer patients, King Charles said: “What’s that Winston Churchill saying?”

He added: “Keep buggering on.”

The king also met with people living with cancer and people researching the disease at a reception during his tour of the university. He reportedly asked if they were managing to “survive the side effects alright”.

You just have to push on, don’t you.

The Times reports that King Charles said during the meeting: “You just have to push on, don’t you.”

Ivan McMinn, chairman of the Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer charity, praised King Charles for his visit.

Ivan said: “It was great to have the privilege to meet His Majesty.

“You can just see he is genuinely interested in the combination of research and government departments working with people with lived experience, and the magic sauce to bring all that together for the betterment of patients across all cancers.”

What’s that Winston Churchill saying? Keep buggering on.

He went on to say that the king was asking questions. But he didn’t reference his own diagnosis.

Ivan added: “His questioning, you could almost imagine what was inside his mind, why he was asking the questions he was.”

Why Charles chose to go public with his diagnosis

King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was announced in February 2024. His cancer was identified after he underwent a procedure for “benign prostate enlargement”.

However, the type of cancer Charles has hasn’t been confirmed. Last year, Buckingham Palace shared why the king chose to go public with his diagnosis.

A statement read: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

Meanwhile, a source reportedly explained the reason why Charles hasn’t shared his type of cancer.

A source told The Times in December 2024 that “the king’s decision not to reveal the type of cancer was a conscious choice to be able to reach out to the widest number of people who are experiencing the disease, rather than narrow the focus onto a particular form of cancer”.

Yesterday, it was shared that due to complications with his treatment, the monarch would not be well enough to attend engagements for the foreseeable.

The monarch sent his apologies to fans who may be “inconvenienced or disappointed” over the postponed events in his diary.
