King Charles flooded with emotional well-wishes after hospital trip for cancer treatment side-effects
The King announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024
King Charles has been met with an outpouring of love and support after it was revealed he was briefly admitted to hospital due to temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.
The 76-year-old monarch was taken to The London Clinic for a short period of observation following a scheduled treatment session.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Thursday evening. They reassured the public that the King has since returned to Clarence House and is continuing his recovery under medical advice.

King Charles admitted to hospital
“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, the King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” a palace spokesperson said.
“His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed. His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House. As a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled. His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
A source downplayed the incident. They called it “a most minor bump in a road”. They also emphasised that the king’s treatment is “very much headed in the right direction.”
The King revealed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024. He has continued to take on limited public-facing duties while undergoing weekly treatment.
Despite his health challenges, Charles remains committed to his royal responsibilities.
He is still scheduled to carry out a state visit to Italy with Queen Camilla on April 7. The trip will mark his first overseas engagement of 2025.
It comes after a demanding two-week tour of Australia and Samoa last October, during which he briefly paused treatment.

Fans and prominent figures react
Messages of goodwill have flooded social media and the press. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was among the first to offer his support.
A Downing Street spokesperson confirmed that the Prime Minister “wishes His Majesty the King all the very best.”
Royal commentator Angela Levin echoed the sentiment.
“Our King Charles was taken to hospital,” she wrote on Twitter. “When you have cancer and you are in your mid-seventies like he is, you need quick attention. He’s a great man and I wish him well.”
Royal Editor Russell Myers also shared his thoughts in a heartfelt column for The Mirror. He applauded the King’s dedication and work ethic despite health setbacks.
“I have watched him up close on engagements since then, both at home and abroad,” Russell wrote. “Charles looked particularly shattered during the first few days [in Australia]. But after a dose of the gorgeous Aussie sun, he settled into the time zone and looked in his element.”
He added that the monarch has clearly adopted the late Queen Elizabeth II’s famous mantra: “One must be seen to be believed.”
Fans were also quick to respond online with messages of concern, admiration, and well-wishes for the King’s recovery.
“God bless His Majesty,” one fan tweeted.
“Wishing King Charles a speedy recovery. Looking forward to seeing him out and about amongst his citizens,” another wrote.
The King’s resilience has only strengthened public support, with many praising his ongoing commitment to duty amid personal challenges.
