Prince William, a lifelong fan of Aston Villa Football Club, has received a personal invitation from Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi to attend the Champions League quarter-final first leg between Aston Villa and PSG in France.

The Prince of Wales has been a passionate supporter of the Birmingham-based club for years. He is expected to travel to Paris for the match – but he won’t be the only VIP in attendance.

Prince William receives invitation to watch Aston Villa in Paris

Prince William appeared to confirm his Paris plans earlier this month after witnessing Villa secure their place in the quarter-finals with a win over Club Brugge at Villa Park.

As he departed the stadium, the Prince turned to journalists and smiled, saying: “See you in Paris.”

Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, another famous Aston Villa fan, has also been invited to join the royal at the high-stakes clash.

The Prince of Wales has been closely following Villa’s European journey this season. He previously travelled to Monaco to watch them take on AS Monaco during an earlier Champions League fixture.

Ahead of the Club Brugge match, William paid a surprise visit to Aston Villa’s training ground.

The Prince of Wales offered words of encouragement and posed for photos with several first-team players.

In a message shared to the official @princeandprincessofwales Instagram account, he wrote: “Great to pop in to see @avfcofficial yesterday ahead of tonight’s Champions League game! Up the Villa!”

Photos from the visit showed the Prince chatting with key squad members including Morgan Rogers, Jacob Ramsey, Emi Martinez, Matty Cash, and Youri Tielemans.

In addition to the Paris leg, Prince William is expected to attend the second leg of the tie, set to take place at Villa Park.

Prince William to appear on Clarkson’s Farm

Meanwhile, while meeting farmers and the Clarkson’s Farm cast this week to discuss mental health struggles, Prince William was reminded of a cheeky moment from October 2023.

During a past chat with Radio 1’s Jordan North and Vick Hope, the Prince had joked his favourite emoji was the aubergine – before quickly backtracking.

“I’ve been told not to say the aubergine, so I’ve got to pick something else,” He laughed at the time. “It would have been the aubergine. But I’m saying now… the one where the eyes go up and down and the mouth’s out.”

“Prince William is dirtier than anything you’ve ever said.” Vick joked back.

At this week’s farm visit, Vick – now on Countryfile – couldn’t resist bringing it up.

William grinned and replied, “Yes. Thank you for reminding me. It felt like the environment to do it, not for today maybe.”

Princess Kate was with him during the original interview. However, she kept things wholesome by saying her favourite emojis were the heart and the crying-laughing face.
