King Charles will resume his royal duties this week in a new update on his health following his recent hospital trip amid his cancer treatment.

Last week, the monarch, 76, was briefly admitted to hospital after experiencing “temporary side-effects” from his treatment for cancer. He was diagnosed last year and his treatment is ongoing.

On Monday (March 31), Buckingham Palace confirmed that the king will carry on with his work this week. It comes after a restful weekend at Highgrove.

New King Charles update after hospital trip

According to reports, King Charles will resume his usual mix of private and public engagements this week at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

However, a couple of appointments have been moved out of his diary.

It’s believed his visit to Italy with wife Queen Camilla will still go ahead next week.

The update comes after the palace revealed last week that the king had been admitted to hospital briefly for observation.

King Charles’ hospital trip after experiencing ‘temporary side effects’ from cancer treatment

A statement from the palace read: “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, the king experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital.

“His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed.

His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced.

“His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure. Acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled.”

It also added: “His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

King Charles’ cancer diagnosis and why he hasn’t revealed the type

In February 2024, the king’s cancer diagnosis was announced by the palace. The type of cancer the monarch has hasn’t been revealed.

According to reports, King Charles didn’t want to reveal the type of cancer. A source claimed that “the king’s decision not to reveal the type of cancer was a conscious choice to be able to reach out to the widest number of people who are experiencing the disease, rather than narrow the focus onto a particular form of cancer”.

It’s no surprise that the king has continued with his work this week. His wife Queen Camilla previously revealed that the monarch is “not one for chilling”. She also said he “won’t do what he’s told”.

Well wishes have poured in for King Charles over the past few days. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer sent a message. He said he “wishes His Majesty the king all the very best”.
