Meghan Markle is never far away from drama and with her new podcast launch just around the corner and her luxury brand As Ever finally gracing shopping baskets, the Duchess of Sussex is the name on everybody’s lips.

Unfortunately, not always for the right reasons. In fact, two PR experts have some pretty stark warnings for Meghan, and they claim her recent behaviour could be viewed as “vacuous”.

Meghan Markle issued warning over podcast launch

Giselle Elsom, Managing Director of London based social media agency, Truffle, has chimed in on the topic.

Elsom told us: “The rise of founder-led content has been huge on socials and Meghan’s move into this space could be a smart strategy, but she’ll need to tread carefully.

“With her wealth and royal background, she could be at risk of sounding out of touch when handing out business advice, much like the social media backlash we’ve seen around influencers-turned-founders (we all remember Molly-Mae’s ‘we all have the same 24 hours in a day’ moment).

“To succeed in resonating with a wider audience, Meghan will need to focus on authenticity and ensure her advice feels accessible on multiple levels.”

Meanwhile, Crisis Comms expert Anthony Burr, founder of Burr Media agrees. In fact, Burr predicts that Meghan could endure even more hypocrisies and conflict.

Meghan Markle ‘won’t be shy from pushing envelope on new podcast’

He told Royal Insider: “Meghan seems to court controversy even when she boils an egg – as on her new lifestyle brand As Ever – so she won’t shy away from pushing the envelope on her new business podcast.

“They key to success will be getting the right juxtaposition between these two platforms and keeping both as authentic as possible – as the less friendly tabloid media will quickly pick up on any hypocrisies or conflicting messages.”

Despite acknowledging that Meghan appears to attract criticism like a magnet, he does say that if done correctly, Meghan’s new podcast venture could work really well.

“At best the podcast will serve to be aspirational and inspirational to the next generation of female entrepreneurs. At worst it will be vacuous self-promotion – but if Meghan keeps to an informative, factual narrative with some exclusive content and invites interesting guests to the podcast, it could work really well,” Burr detailed.

Meghan launches As Ever products

It comes as Meghan’s luxury lifestyle brand As Ever launched today, with her products including jams and edible flower sprinkles quickly selling out.

However, the prices of the items sparked a mixed reaction online.

Only time will tell if Meghan’s new podcast – Confessions of a Female Founder – will win over the public…
