Prince Harry was 'bewitched' by Meghan Markle as he 'heard his mother's voice' in duchess' promise
Harry was just 12 when he lost his mother
Prince Harry was “bewitched” by Meghan Markle, one of Princess Diana’s close friends believes.
The loss of Diana undoubtedly changed Prince Harry’s life forever. Harry was just 12 when his mother died in a tragic car crash in 1997, devastating the royal family, especially Harry and William.
26 years on, former royal butler Paul Burrell is sharing his thoughts on how Harry’s life could have been very different if Princess Diana was still alive.
Burrell also speculates how the Duke of Sussex could have been steered onto a very different path by the guiding hand of his mother.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s life if Princess Diana was still alive
In a poignant new discussion about the royals, Burrell reflects on how he first met Harry. He describes a heartfelt moment where he touched Princess Diana’s pregnant stomach and felt him kick.
Burrell goes on to describe how Prince Harry was so attached to his mother – he preferred to share a bed with her, rather than sleep in his own bed. He goes on to detail how the young royal heartbreakingly soaked his shirt with tears after the loss of his 36-year-old mother.
Nearly three decades on, Burrell is reflecting on how he thinks Princess Diana would feel about Harry’s life now, including his marriage to Meghan Markle, his lack of relationship with Prince William and his move to California.
Meghan has changed that by alienating him from them.
“If Diana had lived, she would have steered [Harry] in a different direction and he would have been influenced by her to stay at his brother’s side,” Paul explains to Life & Style. Instead, Burrell says “Meghan gave Harry the confidence to leave the royal family”.

‘Meghan gave Harry the confidence to leave the royal family’
“I truly believe that Meghan bewitched him and when she whispered in his ear, ‘Together we could change the world.’ Harry heard his mother’s voice, not Meghan’s,” former royal butler Burrell speculates.
“Harry was always gregarious and kept family and friends close. But Meghan has changed that by alienating him from them. Now, he appears to be reliant solely on Meghan. Her word seems to be final. In the royal pack of cards, Harry was always the joker and much more open.”

Prince Harry insists he is living the life Princess Diana wanted for him
Harry previously insisted at the New York Times Dealbook Summit that he is living “the life my mum wanted for me”.
However, Paul Burrell believes Princess Diana would have heard Prince Harry’s plea for independence and counselled her son and Meghan to stay “close to the royal family”.
Burrell says that he still remembers the “sweet, kind and considerate boy” Harry was. He believes those traits “are still there”. This is despite Harry thinking “that it is the world versus him and Meghan”.
