Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are often described as being embroiled in a frosty feud due to tension within the family. Many headlines swirl about the pair, with reporters clamouring over who has the best royal style or who is more suited to royal life.
Meanwhile, a new debate is on the lips of royal insiders…
It seems that the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex may actually be facing off in an unspoken race over who is the new “People’s Princess” and following in the steps of their late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle in ‘unspoken battle’
After her battle with cancer, Princess Kate has returned to royal duties with reported renewed vigour. The Princess of Wales bravely shared she would be undergoing preventative cancer treatment last year and has since stepped back into her role as a working royal since being in remission.
Of course, it is unsurprising that Kate’s heart-wrenching admission to such a frightening diagnosis captured the hearts of many around the globe, with countless royal observers able to relate to Kate’s struggle.
Although the princess appears to be a natural at her role within The Firm, it may be that there is more strategy behind her presentation to the public than what first meets the eye.
Kate Middleton follows Princess Diana’s lead
According to Radar Online, sources suggest Kate is “relentlessly driving forward” with her charitable efforts – efforts which follow the footsteps of Princess Diana’s own work very closely.
Such efforts are allegedly modelled upon Princess Diana’s humanitarian legacy and it is safe to say the similarities between Kate and Diana’s work is uncanny…

From spending time in nature with the Scouts focusing on conservation education and advocating for early childhood development through her Shaping Us initiative, Princess Kate has her finger in many pies – and it seems she has followed Diana’s winning recipe.

“She’s feeling energised and focused,” claimed an insider. “This is Kate’s moment to step into a new phase – one that echoes Diana’s passion for causes that touch real lives.”
But what about Meghan?

Well, it seems Meghan’s recipe for success may look a little different and she is known for putting her own “spin” on things…
In California, Meghan is focusing on entrepreneurial success and flogging her artisan jam with her new luxury lifestyle line, As Ever.

Not only that, she has recently returned to our screens in her Netflix show (With Love, Meghan) that, despite divisive reviews from critics, will air a second series and has inspired some social media users to appreciate thoughtful gestures.
Meghan’s work doesn’t stop there. In recent months she has supported her local communities suffering the fallout of the Los Angeles wildfires earlier in the year. She has even pushed the stories of female founders into the spotlight with her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.
Despite Meghan’s efforts, it is safe to say her recipe could use a few more spoonfuls of sugar, as they haven’t all gone down well with royal observers.
But it is worth noting, that not all of Princess Diana’s approaches to royal life were seen as positive. In fact, she was often unconventional and sometimes described as controversial – much like Meghan!

Regardless, it seems royal insiders are on team Kate.
“Kate is showing Meghan how a royal should conduct herself,” said a source. “There’s a difference between curated luxury and committed legacy.”
Princess Diana’s work with AIDS patients and landmine victims lives on beyond her tragic death in 1997, leaving behind a poignant legacy that it seems both Kate and Meghan hope to emulate.
Unsurprisingly, it seems both women are eager to pick up the People’s Princess’ baton.
Princess Kate’s powerful statement
In January, Princess Kate returned to Royal Marsden Hospital, where she underwent chemotherapy in 2024, for a visit. At the time, she shared a powerful statement as she announced she was in remission.
“We couldn’t have asked for more,” she touchingly wrote to her care team.
Elsewhere, during the same month, the Sussexes visited the Pasadena Convention Center, where evacuees of the Eaton Fire were sheltering and receiving support.
In a moving display of support for their local communities, the couple were snapped visiting destroyed homes, with Meghan at the forefront, sporting a mask to fight off the residual fumes.
Meghan Markle’s work amid LA wildfires
Mayor of Pasadena Victor Gordo, who reportedly spoke with Meghan at the time, told reporters: “This is their second visit today. We were here earlier today and they were serving food, anonymously. No one knew they were serving food, with masks on. They didn’t come out here for publicity. They came out here to work.”
He went on to say: “Then we went to visit some of the families in the impacted area and view first-hand some of the impacted area. Then they wanted to go visit the first responders and personally thank them for their efforts to help our families and our neighbours.”
CNN reported at the time that Meghan and Harry also donated money to aid efforts through their Archewell Foundation.
Additionally, they reportedly provided clothing and other essential supplies.
According to reports, the couple also opened up their Montecito home to friends and locals who may have needed a safe spot to shelter – a heartfelt and considerate move.
It is safe to say that both women are trying their best to better the world in their own ways and it is important to highlight that there is room for both of them to succeed.
