New reports claim Meghan Markle was very eager to settle down with Prince Harry ahead of their engagement. The former actress, according to reports, made Harry’s cottage her home even before the public knew that they had taken their relationship to the next level.

Apparently, there were quite a few signs that Prince Harry and Meghan’s romance was serious.

When did Meghan Markle get engaged?

Harry and Meghan first hit things off on a blind date in 2016. After that, their relationship developed fairly quickly. After a year and a half of knowing each other, Harry popped the all important question in late 2017.

The couple announced their engagement publicly in November of 2017.

Then, in 2018, they shared their nuptials in a dreamy royal ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

It seems that even before the pair announced their engagement in 2017, Meghan had made herself at home.

Weeks before their engagement was made public, speculation was rife that Harry was about to get down on one knee.

However, the couple had to iron out a few details first. Details that now majorly hint that they were preparing to say “I do”.

One key thing being their living arrangements. Meghan had been living in Canada, where she was filming for Suits. Meanwhile, Harry obviously lived in the UK.

The now Duchess of Sussex took a giant leap of faith ahead of the prince popping that all important question, by giving up her role in Suits and following Harry to London.

The couple then reportedly set up home together at Nottingham Cottage, in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Meghan allegedly began unpacking before Harry had asked her to marry him, even moving her beloved rescue beagle, Guy, to the UK.

When announcing their engagement in an intimate interview, where the pair were filmed by the BBC holding hands whilst cosied up on a sofa, they admitted they had in fact only had two dates before they went on holiday together and embarked on a long distance relationship.

Although, Meghan insisted their relationship wasn’t a “whirlwind” and their connection already had “layers” to it.

Unsurprisingly, Meghan had to gain his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s blessing before he got down on one knee, meaning the queen knew even before Meghan did that Harry had planned to pop the question.

Elsewhere, the rumour mill was churning and speculation swirled that the BBC had been “primed for a royal announcement”.

It was here that sources claimed that the smitten couple were house hunting together and Meghan had already unpacked her bags, ready to settle down with the now Duke of Sussex.

“They are trying to sort a few things out first,” a source told the Daily Star at the time. “They are house hunting for a retreat and other things, but it will be up to them to decide.”

The source went on to say: “Meghan is now staying at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

“She and Harry are a very private couple, and Her Majesty has said he (Harry) hasn’t got the same responsibility as William, which I know Harry is very happy with.”

At the time, Harry even cleared his schedule, ruling out all public engagements – clearly as he had one very special engagement to commit to.

Why does Meghan Markle not wear her engagement ring?

Harry popped the question with a stunning diamond ring, which he designed himself, back in 2017.

Meghan’s original ring was a cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, symbolising the couple’s first holiday together, and flanked by two diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal collection.

Since then, Meghan has made some tweaks to the sparkling rocks and sometimes is spotted without the ring, although she is also often seen with the special piece.

Laura Taylor, engagement ring specialist, told Hello! of Meghan’s changes to her ring, explaining why and how she made the changes.

Laura stated: “She may have updated the ring by either recutting the original stone or swapping it for a new one, but it could also be a replica for practicality.”

She continued: “Another possibility is that she keeps the original ring stored away for safekeeping. Featuring diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection, the ring has a high sentimental value and worth, so it would make sense for Meghan to wear a replica for everyday tasks.”
