Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s children, Archie and Lilibet, could face heartache as they grow up without a bond with their cousins within the royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in California with their young kids. They have become somewhat estranged from the royal family amid a reported rift between Harry and his father King Charles and brother Prince William.

Due to strained relationships, a royal commentator has explained how this could impact Archie and Lilibet’s own relationships with their cousins – William and Kate, Princess of Wales’ children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Louis.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children ‘facing heartache’ over bond with royal cousins

Speaking to the Mirror, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “I always imagined Harry and William remaining close and enjoying watching their children grow up together.

“And I guess there must be times when they both think the same. But there is absolutely no sign of the cousins ever getting to know one another.

“Harry probably has more time and reason than William to think about the rift that he has caused and I’m sure it is a great sadness to him. But he has chosen a different life in a different country, and that looks as if it is where he will stay.”

King Charles’ ‘great loss’ over grandchildren Archie and Lilibet

Jennie went on to say she’s sure that King Charles “still does love Harry” and would love even more to “be able to spend time with Archie and Lilibet“.

Describing the king as a “doting grandfather” to George, Charlotte and Louis, Jennie said it’s a “great loss” to Charles that he can’t spend time with Harry’s children.

Princes William and Harry were once close. However, over the years, their bond has reportedly broken down.

Harry has hit out at his family on a few occasions, both in his 2021 Oprah interview alongside Meghan and in his 2023 tell-all memoir Spare.

Prince Harry’s ‘worries’ over William’s children

When his memoir Spare was released in 2023, Prince Harry expressed his “worries” for brother William’s three children.

The Duke of Sussex admitted he was concerned over one of the children becoming a “spare” like he felt he was. Harry said he felt like the “spare” due to William always being destined to become king one day.

Speaking to The Telegraph at the time, Harry said: “And though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility, I still feel a responsibility knowing that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, that worries me.”
