Prince William reportedly could barely contain his fury over the leak of photos showing Kate Middleton topless, just a year after their wedding.

The Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated 14 years of marriage on April 29. The couple tied the knot in 2011 at Westminster Abbey.

But just over a year into their marriage, William and Kate faced a scandal in the press when images of the duchess topless on a private holiday were leaked.

Prince William’s ‘fury’ over Kate Middleton’s topless photos scandal

In September 2012, Prince William and Kate enjoyed a holiday in Provence, France. According to reports, they stayed at a private chateau of Queen Elizabeth II’s nephew, Viscount David Linley.

However, a photographer took images of Kate sunbathing topless and leaked them to a French tabloid.

Prince William and Kate sued Closer magazine at the time for publishing the images. They received thousands in damages – which they reportedly donated to charity.

In 2017, during a trial over the matter, William said in a statement read out in court: “My wife and I thought that we could go to France for a few days in a secluded villa owned by a member of my family, and thus enjoy our privacy.

“The clandestine way in which these photographs were taken was particularly shocking to us as it breached our privacy.”

Prince William’s ‘fury’ over Kate topless photos leak

In a recent piece for MailOnline, royal commentator Rebecca English claimed Prince William looked “so angry” when the images emerged in the press.

When the images emerged in the French magazine, Prince William and Kate were on a royal tour in Malaysia. It was a part of Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee.

Kate was the picture of cool, calm and utterly unruffled elegance.

Recalling seeing the prince during the tour, Rebecca said: “His anger was completely understandable. The instinctive reaction of a man whose wife was violated by the paparazzi, a hurtful re-imagining of the harassment he believes his late mother endlessly endured.”

However, Rebecca said Kate looked “the picture of cool, calm and utterly unruffled elegance” during the engagements.

Prince William’s ‘promise’ to Kate’s parents before their wedding

She added: “Later in the trip, William quietly explained the depth of his fury. Not only at the intrusion his wife had been subjected to, obviously, but the fact that he had been unable to protect her from it.”

Rebecca claimed that the prince had “promised her parents when he asked for their daughter’s hand in marriage two years earlier that he would always do his best to protect her”.

She suggested William felt “that he had failed”.
