Kate Middleton has wowed royal fans once more with another subtle hair transformation and it has definitely turned heads.

Kate often keeps up with trends and carefully integrates the latest fashion into her personal style. Her hairdo is no different and on April 29, her 14-year wedding anniversary with Prince William, the Princess of Wales showed off a summer-ready update to her look.

Kate Middleton rocks ‘blonde’ highlights in her hair

The now Princess of Wales officially entered the royal family as Prince William’s fiancée in 2010 where, whilst sporting a royal blue dress and her sapphire engagement ring, she showed off her signature rich, dark brown locks.

Now, as of April 29, Princess Kate has notably lighter tresses, which some outlets are describing as blonde.

However, royal observers are less convinced by this description, insisting that Kate’s hair is still brown.

One penned on X (formerly Twitter): “That’s not blonde.”

Another agreed: “Blonde?? Get some glasses light brown.”

“Is that actually blonde?” questioned a third.

Although it is safe to say Princess Kate still has brunette hair, she also seems to be rocking highlights, fitting for the warmer and brighter months that are upon us.

Princess Kate’s new hair was spotted when she was photographed on the first day of her visit to the Isle of Mull in Scotland.

Her transformation showcases a lighter bronde colour with honey-brown highlights.

Her new hue was also pointed out after she and Prince William posed for a loved-up snap captioned: “Wonderful to be back on the Isle of Mull. Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome. W & C,” shared to their Instagram feed.

Kate’s mane was praised by royal enthusiasts online, with one penning: “Love the colour!”

Another chimed in: “I love it! Catherine has such spectacular hair.”

Over the years, Princess Kate has made quiet changes to her locks…

Kate Middleton’s hair over the years…

In 2011, on her idyllic wedding day where she married Wills, Princess Kate’s dark brown hair was meticulously styled into a half-up-half-down do, topped with a sparkling tiara.

A couple of years later, in 2013 specifically, Kate began lightening her locks, adding a touch of gold blonde to brighten up her look.

By December 2015, Princess Kate had reverted to her darker tresses, this time with her mane chopped down into a long bob.

Her hairdresser Richard Ward told People, at the time, that it was “a practical style and a great option for a mum who has had long hair, who has a busy life and is short on time”. He added: “It’s slightly more sophisticated but with all the benefits of long hair.”

In January 2018, Princess Kate made another subtle change, still sporting dark brown locks, but with a faintly warmer hue.

In September of the following year, on Princess Charlotte’s first day of school, Princess Kate was seen with much blonder tresses.

Kate’s subtle hair transformations

Just two months before, a source had told People that Kate had been undergoing a style overhaul.

They said at the time: “Kate felt like she was in a bit of a style rut and thought she needed a little edge. She’s consciously worked on getting her look to be a bit younger and more modern, and it worked!”

When March 2020 came around, the Princess of Wales’ darker hair had returned, this time it was shoulder-length and complimented by trendy bangs.

Later into 2020, Kate opted for a lighter look, brightened up with honey hues once more.

Earlier this year, Kate’s hair appeared to be darker with warmer highlights than her most recent do. Now, Princess Kate has gone bronde.

Is Kate Middleton wearing hair extensions?

As headlines swirl over Kate’s hair transformation, questions about her dreamy locks are reaching the surface – including those questioning whether her luscious tresses are actually real.

While some hair experts have speculated that Princess Kate could be using tape or keratin bond extensions to improve the thickness of her hair, it has never been confirmed.

It is worth noting though that the fullness of Kate’s hair has definitely increased over the years, explaining rumours.

According to reports, Olia Cutz of The Extensionist has described how tape or keratin bond extensions could be adding to the thickness of Kate’s hair.

Elsewhere, Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist Chris Appleton has claimed that Kate’s hair is naturally voluminous and that he can tell by the texture of the ends of her hair that she is not wearing extensions.

Does Kate Middleton do her own hair?

Princess Kate likely does her own hair behind the scenes, but for royal engagements and outings her professional hairstylist Amanda Cook Tucker seems to take the reins.

Cook Tucker began working with the Princess of Wales back in 2012.

Her hairdresser Richard Ward styled her hair on her 2011 wedding day, along with one of his employees.

“I have some incredible memories of that day,” Ward told People of styling Kate’s hair on her wedding day.

“When she walked back into Buckingham Palace and her hair was all still in place, I cannot tell you the relief we all felt!”
