Princess Diana almost sparks Sylvester Stallone vs Richard Gere ‘fistfight’
A new book, titled Dianaworld: An Obsession, explores how the late Princess of Wales’ magnetic aura broke the royal mould.
It analyses Princess Diana‘s life via several stories, some that fans haven’t heard before.
One story included in the book is the time that she reportedly almost sparked a full-on fight between Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere during a party, according to Elton John’s husband, David Furnish.
Elton had addressed the incident in his 2019 book, Me.
PEOPLE has published an excerpt from the new book about Diana.
“Elton John had numerous opportunities to witness what he terms ‘the Diana Effect,’ the phenomenon whereby straight men ‘seemed to completely lose their minds in her presence.’ One such incident occurred at a house party, thrown sometime in the mid-1990s when Diana and Charles were already separated. If John’s memory serves him well, Sylvester Stallone arrived ‘with the express intention of picking Diana up’ and was infuriated to see her ‘in rapt conversation’ with Richard Gere,” the book claims.

The excerpt continued.
“At some point in the evening, John’s husband, David Furnish, came upon Stallone and Gere ‘squaring up to each other, apparently about to settle their differences over Diana by having a fistfight.’ Stallone said he wouldn’t have bothered turning up if he’d known that ‘Prince [bleeping] Charming was gonna be here,'” it reads.
This wasn’t the last time Diana and Sylvester ran into each other.
They were also at a Barnardo’s children’s charity lunch in London together in 1993.
However, Sylvester didn’t get to sit next to Diana on this occasion, thanks to a little girl called Tracy.

Speaking in the book, Tessa Baring of the Barnardo’s charity opened up about the occasion.
“Stallone ‘really, really wanted to come and sit next to the Princess of Wales,’ said Baring. ‘We didn’t let him do that, but we did let him sit next to a child who was sitting next to the Princess of Wales.’ Baring remembered the occasion because she thought Diana hit upon an effective way of placating the film star, making the child feel included, and indulging her own desire to find out the latest gossip, by leaning over and asking Stallone questions about his love life as though she were asking them on Tracy’s behalf: ‘Tracy and I want to know if you’re married,’ and the like,” the excerpt reads.
Sylvester has since tied the knot with his third wife, model Jennifer Flavin in 1997.
Richard Gere, meanwhile, was married to Cindy Crawford during the time of his clash with Sylvester. However, according to Elton John, he and Cindy had broken up at the time of the Diana clash.
He’s since been married twice more.
