King Charles likely sent a thank you note to Meghan Markle following claims she sent him some of her As Ever jam, a royal butler has said.

In April, a report claimed that the Duchess of Sussex, 43, sent a “sample box of delights” from her As Ever brand to Clarence House – the king’s London residence.

A royal commentator said that “tiny gestures like this are her way of showing compassion for what the king is going through” amid his cancer.

Now, according to a royal butler who worked for the king, the monarch likely sent a thank you note to Meghan.

King Charles likely sent ‘thank you note’ to Meghan Markle following As Ever jam gift

Grant Harrold, who worked as a butler for Charles between 2004 to 2011, said he thinks the king “would absolutely have sent a thank you note”.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Grant said of Meghan’s reported gesture: “Jam? Really? Well, yes, he does eat jam – mainly because he loves his scones.

King Charles would absolutely have sent a thank you note. No question.

“So if you’re having a proper afternoon tea, you’ll find jam on the table. But I wouldn’t say it’s his absolute favourite. Now, if it had been honey – oh, now that would’ve been the perfect gift. He’s mad about honey.”

Grant continued: “That said, I can totally believe Meghan might’ve made some homemade jam and sent it as a nice gesture. It’s the sort of thoughtful thing people do.

“But posting it? That’s the bit I find a bit odd. You’d think if Harry was visiting, he might have brought it with him and just had it passed along. Still, I suppose it’s possible they arranged for it to be sent directly.”

Grant added: “But I can tell you this – King Charles would absolutely have sent a thank you note. No question.

“He’s very, very particular about things like that. Whether it’s jam, honey, or anything else, if it’s a gift – especially from family – he will always respond properly.

“Despite everything that’s gone on, he wouldn’t skip that kind of courtesy. It’s just who he is.”

Just a few weeks ago, reports emerged claiming Meghan had sent some items from her brand to the royals in the UK.

According to royal correspondent Neil Sean, a “very well-placed source” claimed that a “sample box of delights” was sent to Clarence House.

According to the As Ever website, the jam “delicately mixes the sweetness of raspberries with a hint of lemon”. The website states the jam is “inspired by the recipe Meghan crafted in her home kitchen”.

Speaking about her selling out in under an hour, Meghan said on Instagram: “Our shelves may be empty, but my heart is full! We sold out in less than one hour and I can’t thank you enough… for celebrating, purchasing, sharing, and believing.”
