Whoopi Goldberg refuses to talk about Meghan Markle as co-host slams 'cringe' use of HRH royal title

Over the last few days there has been an uproar after it was reported that Meghan has been using her HRH title in private. When Prince Harry and Meghan left their royal duties in 2020, they agreed with the late Queen Elizabeth II that they would not use their HRH titles anymore.
But it seems Meghan has used the title in private, when sending a gift hamper to her friend Jamie Kern Lima. A source for Meghan defended her actions this week, insisting that the couple still have their HRH titles but don’t use them for “commercial purposes”.
Meghan Markle HRH title debacle
On the latest episode of US talk show The View, the hosts spoke about the latest hot topics in the world – including the royal title fiasco. But actress Whoopi made her feelings on the subject clear, when she didn’t even want to be involved.
This week, Meghan made an appearance on her friend Jamie’s podcast show – The Jamie Kern Lima Show. During the podcast, which aired on April 28, Jamie shared an image of a gift hamper Meghan had previously sent her. It contained ice cream and homemade strawberry sauce.
But the note alongside it caused uproar. It read: “With the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”
Meghan faced criticism for using the title, since she’s not a working royal. A source for the duchess defended the move, saying Harry and Meghan “retain their HRH titles; however, by agreement, they do not use them for commercial purposes”.
Since then, a new report has alleged that Prince William could strip Meghan and Harry of their HRH titles when he becomes king.
Whoopi Goldberg refuses to comment on Meghan Markle on The View
The latest reports became a topic of conversation on The View on April 30.
The hosts began debating whether it was a “bad look” for Meghan to still refer to herself as a royal, and Whoopi decided that was enough for her.
She told the panel: “Wake me up when you’re done,” before pretending to fall asleep during the discussion.
After her co-hosts had their say, Whoopi decided to ‘wake up’ from her fake nap. And this is when she again made her feelings known.
Wake me up when you’re done.
When co-host Joy Behar asked her if she was bored, she responded directly with: “It’s the subject matter.”
But then Whoopi decided to weigh in slightly on the controversy, and what she had to say proved that she wasn’t a fan of the situation. She called out Meghan’s friend for feeling the need to make the gift public.
She said: “To me, I think if someone gives you a gift.. I don’t feel like she needed to show that. I’m old enough to be insightful.”
Prince William could ‘strip’ the titles from Harry and Meghan
However, many of The View co-hosts had differing opinions on Meghan Markle using her old title. Sunny Hostin seemed team Meghan.
Sunny said: “The agreement that was made did not remove the title. It restricted the way it was to be used. It was not to be used publicly.”
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin called Meghan using her title when gifting a friend “a little cringe”. But she appeared more critical of Prince William’s alleged desire to strip the titles from Meghan and Harry when he becomes king. She called the prince “petty” for this potential move.
She said: “I find it way cringier and very, very petty that Prince William is reportedly waiting to take the throne and be king so he can strip her of her title. You only live once, make up with your brother.”
Joy then cut in: “Maybe it’s not true.”
This week, an insider claimed William was not happy that Meghan used the title.
A source said: “There is no way King William will stand for this. The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”
