King Charles' heartfelt wish after Prince Harry's bombshell plea to reconcile with the royal family
Prince Harry opened up about his estrangement in a recent interview
As the royal family turned its focus to this week’s VE Day commemorations, Prince Harry’s surprise interview pleading for reconciliation with his father, King Charles, reignited tensions within the monarchy.
Despite the Duke of Sussex’s emotional plea that “life is precious” and his admission that King Charles is currently not speaking to him, royal insiders and experts suggest that a reunion between father and son remains a distant dream.

Why does King Charles not speak to Prince Harry?
In an interview with the BBC on Friday (May 2), Prince Harry revealed that he remains estranged from his family. He expressed sadness over his lack of communication with the King.
“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” Harry said. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.”
The remarks have been met with mixed reactions from commentators and insiders alike, particularly given the royal family’s desire to avoid distractions during the solemn VE Day events.
A palace aide confirmed that the royals were firmly focused on honouring veterans this week.
They said: “The King, Queen and other members of the royal family are much looking forward to all the week’s VE Day events. Commemorating and giving thanks to the wartime generation whose selfless devotion, duty and service should stand as an enduring example to us all, and must never be forgotten.”
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, however, Harry’s latest public comments may have deepened the rift, not healed it.
“Dream on, Harry,” Jennie told The Mirror. “This was definitely not the way to forge any reconciliation with the family you were born into. That invitation may be a very long time in coming.”
Former royal press secretary Ailsa Anderson echoed those concerns.
“The Palace will be raising their eyes heavenwards,” she told Sky News. “Prince Harry is saying ‘I don’t know how long my father has’ – that’s going to cause real concern and more speculation in the media and the wider public about what his diagnosis is, which is incredibly unhelpful going forward.”

Does King Charles want to reconcile with Harry?
Despite the ongoing fallout, a friend of King Charles has revealed that the monarch still holds out hope for reconciliation. However, he feels deeply hurt by what he sees as repeated breaches of trust and protocol.
Speaking to The Sun, the friend explained: “What has frustrated and upset him on a more personal level is the Duke’s failure to respect constitutional principles.
“And for his supporters to suggest that somehow his father doesn’t care about his family, or should step in. He’s been particularly concerned that it has taken considerable resources and cost for the Government to defend their position.”
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle appeared to show her own quiet support by posting a black-and-white photo of Harry with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, walking through a garden, holding hands.
The image, shared without a caption, subtly echoed Harry’s comments about fatherhood.
