Meghan Markle lost her title as the most popular wedding dress within the royal family after Kate Middleton beat her to the top spot.

It comes are the Duchess of Sussex was previously crowned for having the most popular wedding dress of the past decade. However, new data has suggested rival Kate Middleton has won the race overall.

The 43-year-old married Prince Harry in a fairytale wedding in 2018. Her nuptials came seven years after that of Kate and Prince William’s.

Kate Middleton’s wedding dress is the most popular in the royal family – beating Meghan Markle

According to data compiled by engagement ring specialists, Stone, Kate Middleton’s wedding dress now holds the title of the most searched gown in the British royal family.

Kate’s wedding dress garners more than 33,100 global searches every single month.

Whereas Meghan Markle’s wedding dress receives 27,100 searches.

However, the Duchess’ sees more popularity in the States (12,100) than in the UK (3,600) – where she lived for a year.

Kate’s gown, designed by Alexander McQueen, featured long sleeves, a fitted Victorian bodice and handmade lace. Millions of viewers watched the live event around the world as Kate stepped out in her gown.

The Victorian-inspired ensemble came also complete with a nine-foot train.

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress was designed by Givenchy and had a boat neck, framed shoulders and three-quarter length sleeves.

Meghan and Harry tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in May 2018 – three days after having a ‘secret’ private vow ceremony at home.

On the day Meghan wore a white three-quarter sleeve, off the shoulder Givenchy gown, designed by Clare Waight Keller.

The dress featured intricate details. These included floral embroidery representing the 53 Commonwealth countries on her five-meter veil. She picked two further flowers to represent Kensington Palace as well as California, her home state.

In addition, she opted for simple accessories, wearing Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, loaned to her by the Queen.

Royals’ most popular wedding dresses

Other royals in the list consisted of the late Princess Diana, as 18,100 people search for her gown from her nuptials each month. Most of the queries stem from America (8,100), despite her wedding to the then Prince Charles taking place back in 1981.

Diana wore an ivory taffeta dress with antique Carrick-ma-cross lace, puffed sleeves and trimmed bows, created by Elizabeth and David Emmanuel. It had an impressive 25-foot train and 153-yard tulle veil.

The late Queen Elizabeth II came in fourth on the list with the average number of global monthly searches coming in at 3,600. Her dress was crafted by Court Designer Norman Hartnell and had a star-patterned fan-shaped bridal train that stretched for 13 feet. Made from Chinese silk, it featured a high neckline, tailored bodice and long straps.

Her granddaughter Princess Beatirce is number five, with the same amount of searches. She tied the knot in 2020, during an intimate ceremony, wearing a vintage ivory gown that was originally created for Queen Elizabeth II in 1961. The dress had organza puff sleeves, and was altered to fit her.

Other royals in the top 10 include Princess Margaret, sister to the late Queen, Princess Eugenie, Princess Anne, Sarah Ferguson and Zara Tindall.
